Steve McClaren said "There was an approach and an appointment set up that wasn't fulfilled, but I can't control that.
"You'd have to ask Aston Villa about the reasons that. At the time it was a disappointment but I've had many disappointments in football. I quickly moved on."
This was only last week, so does this mean forest are just 2nd best and will do, when it come to McClaren.
2nd best

Get over it Wassa!
We know you love the goings on at our club, but that's gone! Move on! Onto the future, where Forest will remain the best club in the East Midlands, and be the team flying the East Midlands flag, when we hopefully make the Premiership.
Whilst you will be flying the flag, battling to avoid relegation

McClaren in fairness was open about wanting to come back to management in the UK.
I personally think he will be either very good (FC Twente, Utd) or absolutely shocking (Wolfsburge, England).
The problem ND has is that now clubs are agreeing to the UEFA rule with regards finance puts him in a slightly tough situation where he either choose to right off a serious amount of cash or forest have to seriously find a way of getting their finances back in control. Point being owed steve may not have that much cash to work with.

I think Villa fans might regret not wanting McClaren with what they are going to get. I would of loved McClaren to come to Derby and i reckon he'll be able to F*rest to the next level after BD. As a football fan I can't see anyone finishing higher than Forest now. Chriest I hope I'm wrong...My mate has got odds of 18/1 for them to win the league...

Dru,
I think you may be right that ND has an eye on the future for if/when these new rules come into play.
One thing is obvious,he wants a man in charge that can help Forest bring through our own academy players.
Can McClaren work on the budget that they will give to him? He must believe that he can,I doubt that they will have mislead him with the figures he will have to work with.
The National media will be keeping an eye on McClarens progress after his return to the U.K and the board will be fully aware of this.

huh? cant see it meself.
do you honestly think they will do better than west ham?

Its hard to say Kern.....I think that West Ham might feel the hangover from the Prem. Althou' I'm impressed with them signing Nolan. My best mate is a West ham fan and he's worried that the fans will get on big Sam's back too early. If they don't start well. He reckon's alot of their problems are down to the crowd turning on the team and manager too much. He thinks next it will be stability and push for promotion the following year.
