Saw this on Facebook and felt it needed its own thread.
RIP darling.
Past Glory, present sadness.
An honest gent, a pro, a friend.
Your heart did many fans fill with gladness.
... From The Valley's to The Gelderd End.
Like Lightning you went on the attack.
The white rose crest upon your shirt.
Aside Strachan, Batty and Mac.
You made us proud until it hurt.
Eleven was your number lucky.
And in the air you rose to score.
Our chants around the kop once shook.
And now will echo for evermore.
Our thoughts and memories within you'll stay.
For Leeds United you're our son.
But now lad, it's time to part and say...
Go on Gary Speed, get yourself one son.
For Gary

To be honest, I always thought speed got a pretty average reception at Elland road when he came back with everton and Newcastle.

LIW, i think he did get a luke warm reception at times, but when i was 9, we won the league and he was part of that great midfield, for me he is a hero of Elland Road and a childhood favourite, i have the shirt still from that season and will leave it at Billy's statue on sat.

Yeah similar age too you and he did at times get a lukewarm reception, I could never understand why

It's strange as he was one of few players to win a league trophy with us and he came through the ranks.
