HELP!

my PS3 is dying and Sony dont care.

at random times the console switches itself off and cuts all power to it. there is no light on it when it does this and to turn it back on i have to disconnect the power and re connect it again.

it has 2 years warrenty and it is 2 1/2 years old.

why do these consoles only last a short time?, this is my 3rd playstation.
Now i know people with X boxes who say that they are just as bad for breaking in 2-3 years.

come on Sony and microsoft! i cant afford a yearly "playstation budget" as well as forking out £30-£50 a time for games for the thing.

Anyway after speaking with Sony they stopped short of saying that that is how long they last and i sould look to buy a new one.
Should i just buy an X box?
are they just the same with breaking after 5 mins?
i know the x box has a very loud fan as i did have one for a few months but hated it so sold it.
i don't want to revert to the other side but if they last longer than a PS3 i might well consider it.

Any advice?

How about trading it into computer x change or someplace like that whilst it still works and then paying £100 extra and buying a new one off them?

This seems to be quite a common problem, they seem to be dying slowly.

So glad I didn't buy one!

the only thing with that is they would be really sus if i wanted to exchange my working old ps3 for a new working one.

the other thing is they take your details so if they find it doesn't work they come and bite you on the bum!

tis another option though... cheers guys

You just say you want to buy the slim version. Unless you already have that then you are stuffed!

buy some SHIN ETSU thermal paste
open up ur ps3
clean off the paste that is there, and replace it.
your chip might be too far gone, and would require reflowing.. basically the solder gets little cracks in it from excessive heat cycles and then fails eventually. cleaning out the thermal paste and replacing with better thermal paste might help
