VALUE OR NO VALUE?

Do you agree with Fergie when he said that there was no value in the transfer market? Fergie also said that it was very difficult to sign players that suited our style and would not cost over the top.
I agree with him to a certain extent though. When he looks around and sees enormous amounts of money splashed on players some of them quite average it surely is mind-blasting.
A few examples being 60m for Ibrahimovic, 50m for Torres, 35m for the donkey that is Carroll, 33m for Robinho,7m for Bebe, 65m for Kaka etc. Out of these none of them have ever gone and fulfilled their price tag.
But on the other hand we also could see many 'cheap' buys around like 13m for Ozil, 8m for VDV, 3.5m for Afellay,5m for Bale etc
So the question arises that is there really no value in the transfer market? I do not think so. There is plenty of value over there clubs just need to keep an watchful eye around for such talents.
I am sure Fergie knows that but I do not have any idea why he came out with such statements. Fergie was never shy of spending big and also bought some really terrific players at minimal cost like Cantona, Keane, Solksjaer, Vidic, Evra, Chicharito etc
So what makes him shy of going out in the market for the most glaringly obvious weakness i.e our mid-field? Now I know that many talented young midfielders are breaking through. For ex Pogba, Morrison, Tunnicliffe but do not forget they are just 18-19 years old and it would take at least 2-3 years to cement a spot in the starting XI.
Till then do we stick with the current crop? Now I am not critisizing our current midfielders but I want to ask you a question and I need a genuine answer. "Are our current CM's good enough for a club like United?"
Now coming back to the value in the transfer market I feel that we should rely on our scouting network to spot such unknown talented players who will be available at a reasonable price. Since we cannot afford to go into a bidding war with the likes of Chelsea,City,Madrid etc.
Yes and I wouldn't mind a "marquee" signing occassionally though.

There is no doubting Hernandez he's awesome, but Young has been awful for us so far.

He's had 3 good games I'll admit but for the most part he's been anonymous and just plain awful.

Villa fans warned us of this as well, they said he was overrated. Now I see their points

Young >>>>> Downing

Plenty of value.

Silva at 24 mil, bargain.

Plenty others to support this case.

And young has always been inconsistant throughout his career, dont see why this is shocking so many people.

I actually admire United's transfer policy. For me it is two-fold, and it has to be. It's an approach that dictates that it's not enough just to sign any player of quality. It's also just as important (if not more so) to sign a player who possesses the right mental attitude and capability to be able to handle playing for United.

Sure, there have been some glaring mistakes in signing certain players, but then that can be said of any club.

In terms of there being no value in the transfer market however, I don't agree that this applies across the board. But I would agree with this sentiment in regards to the inflated cost to English clubs for English players.

No I definitely do not agree with the statement that there is no value in the transfer market. Below are a few examples of good market value.

Nuri Sahin: Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid: 6 million euros.
Rafael Van der Vaart: Real Madrid to Spurs: £8 million.
Mesut Ozil: Werder Bremen to Real Madrid: 15 million euros.
Wesley Sneijder: Real Madrid to Inter Milan: 15 million euros.
Arturo Vidal: Bayer Leverkusen to Juventus: 12.5 million euros.
Scott Parker: West Ham to Spurs: £5.5 million.
Raul Meireles: Porto to Liverpool: 13 million euros.

I'm not saying that we should've tried to sign all of these players btw, 2 or 3 possibly could've made great signings. That's not my point though, I'm just trying to show that there clearly is "value" in the transfer market.

You never know though, some of the prices could've been a bit different had we been interested in any of these players at the time of their transfers to the above clubs.
