VALUE OR NO VALUE?

For the type of player we need, there is no value in the market.

I don't think UTD have good scouts, because the Bebe thing was laughable, signing a player for 7 million without seeing him play. Possibly one of the worst players ever to be seen on a man UTD pitch for any side.

Both the Newcastle players above would be first choice at Utd and cost same as Bebe together !!!!

TopLad maybe that is where man u are failing. £18m for Anderson and little return. Both of these players aren't superstars but both better than the current man u cms.

Gotta applaud Pardew though. Although I never rated him as a manager he as made some pretty astute buys.

I agree there Andy.
But Anderson looked really good, just hasn't progressed as much as people thought he would tbh.

Because our scouts are very good. Pardew obviously has a say but a good scouting network is a must.

Yes the Bebe and Obertan signings were laughable but you cannot have bargain buys every time. Every club makes blunders in the market and that includes us.
All we can hope is we never commit such a mistake next time. Although the Chicharito signing makes amends for the Bebe deal to a large extent. What a bargain for 6m!!!!!!1

I have no idea what has happened to Young over the last couple of months. He started off so brilliantly and perfectly suited our style of play but since then has been average.
Although I cannot think of many established left-wingers that were available in summer.

He could have had Bastian Schweinsteiger, too. I've been banging on about it for years. But will SAF listen? Not a chance. Ignorant git. Doesn't even return any of my dozens of emails each day...

There is no doubting Hernandez he's awesome, but Young has been awful for us so far.

He's had 3 good games I'll admit but for the most part he's been anonymous and just plain awful.

Villa fans warned us of this as well, they said he was overrated. Now I see their points

Plenty of value.

Silva at 24 mil, bargain.

Plenty others to support this case.

And young has always been inconsistant throughout his career, dont see why this is shocking so many people.

I actually admire United's transfer policy. For me it is two-fold, and it has to be. It's an approach that dictates that it's not enough just to sign any player of quality. It's also just as important (if not more so) to sign a player who possesses the right mental attitude and capability to be able to handle playing for United.

Sure, there have been some glaring mistakes in signing certain players, but then that can be said of any club.

In terms of there being no value in the transfer market however, I don't agree that this applies across the board. But I would agree with this sentiment in regards to the inflated cost to English clubs for English players.

No I definitely do not agree with the statement that there is no value in the transfer market. Below are a few examples of good market value.

Nuri Sahin: Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid: 6 million euros.
Rafael Van der Vaart: Real Madrid to Spurs: £8 million.
Mesut Ozil: Werder Bremen to Real Madrid: 15 million euros.
Wesley Sneijder: Real Madrid to Inter Milan: 15 million euros.
Arturo Vidal: Bayer Leverkusen to Juventus: 12.5 million euros.
Scott Parker: West Ham to Spurs: £5.5 million.
Raul Meireles: Porto to Liverpool: 13 million euros.

I'm not saying that we should've tried to sign all of these players btw, 2 or 3 possibly could've made great signings. That's not my point though, I'm just trying to show that there clearly is "value" in the transfer market.

You never know though, some of the prices could've been a bit different had we been interested in any of these players at the time of their transfers to the above clubs.
