Fate is in Pogba's hand

"He's got an agent who's obviously become a bit difficult but we're negotiating with this agent and we want the boy to stay," Ferguson insisted.

"But it's down to the individual also.

"Matt Busby summed it up perfectly, that you don't need to chase money at a club like Manchester United, it will eventually find you. If you're good enough, you will earn money and become rich playing for us, there's no doubt about it.

"You hope he gets the right advice. All the young players who remain here always do well. It's one of these situations that they can chase the money early in their career but at the end it's not the same as if they'd stayed here.

"It's the decision the player has to take himself, no matter who he is, about where they think their best future will be. He just needs to look round about him to realise that. But if he wants to go, there is nothing we can do about it."

I guess the rumors of Pogba leaving are indeed true then, If he can't see what a great club he is at and if he is chasing the money at such a young age when he isn't even an established member of the squad, then I don't think he is at the right club. Let him go we don't need these sort of players at the club. If he stays great, but he needs to realise Fergie calls the shots at this club not him or anyone else for that matter.

Completely agree, however we have the 'Manchester United Factor'. When he was playing for Le Havre and he heard Man Utd were interested, i'm sure he was delighted as we are a far bigger club than Le Havre in a better league too, who could offer better coaching, training facilities and the possibility of playing in the worlds biggest leagues. Could you blame him for joining us?

But it's just business to negotiate a better deal, of course, i'm not saying its a bad thing either. But what is unethical is that clubs like city will pay whatever it takes to get him. Stupid crazy money just because they can.

And that I think for footballers, is where the very fuzzy line of 'negotiating a business deal' and just pure greed comes in. Money before career. Would it be best for Pogba to take a mega money deal and rot away in Citys reserves? Well the choice is obviously his, and the outcome will be very, very telling indeed.

But like you say, that is just what is wrong with football these days.

I understand what you are saying, yes United offer a better opportunity for him than Le Havre.

Having said that, is it Okay for United to entice a player but not City?

I don't blame Pogba for joining United, but I also wouldn't blame him for joining City if they are offering him more money. Who knows what his career holds...but would you refuse a move to a company that offers you more money?

Where will United be in 5 years? Where will City be? Who knows? If another company offers you more money then surely it is wise to consider it, as for him rotting awway in City's reserves, no-one knows what will happen, if he as good as United fans suggest then he will be playing PL football soon enough anyway, why not try it at City?

I agree that City's money is crazy money, but football has always had teams that are financially superior to the rest.

Fergie's comments on Pogba are slap on the face to the posters who said that the Pogba issue was just tabloid nonsense.
Yes tabloids spout out madeup stories most of the times but some of our red-tinted fans just cannot accept that someone wants to leave United or they want every player to think that United should be the ultimate destination for every player to grace the sport.

When did Busby say that, doesn't sound like him, and wages then were pretty low and generally standard across the board?

Footballers were still better off than your average man in those days. Not to the extent of today, but they did well for themselves.

The fact is, we got him (and similar players) in a similar fashion... waving cash around. It's the nature of football, these days.

If he goes, it'll be a shame, but so be it.

Just doing what Wayne Rooney did, threaten to leave and they came back with "how does 250k a week sound"?

I think any 18-19 year old should really look at city's attempt at bringing youngsters through before signing for the team. For every Micah Richards there has been an Onouha(?) and Boyata. So joining city would be more about the money than joining the club for playing time.

Joining Manchester United, who I think it is fair to say have a better track record of bringing talent through and are an established top 4 team (as City are soon to be) could be more about the prestige.

As for your point about switching companies, I get your point but the comparison with footballers is weak at best especially when Pogba will be on atleast 5k a week and is hardly struggling to pay the bills unlike most people. I wonder if his brother playing for Wrexham (who scored today) can give him some perspective?

-----------------------------
I often hear people say this.... but when you think about it, would you uproot to a new city, just for more money?

You'd take into account the bigger picture..... likelihood for promotion, what the boss is like, the staff, the chances of the company still being around during your working career.
