My money is on the fact Ken Bates doesn't want the club in the Premier League, for whatever reason. We seem to always have a very solid start to the season and then around this time of year when we are in a good position he decides to add comments such as
a. We need to reduce the size of the squad.
b. The players are on too high a wage.
3. Becchio should have had an operation in April.
I believe he knows he would not add to the squad with a big cash injection if we did go up and he also knows if this were to happen he would get a lot of grief from the fans because of it.
Does he really care about what the fans think or Is there a more serious reason as well, the FA delving into his background and digging up things that he doesnt want revealing.
Or has he worked out he is making more money in the Championship with players on lower wages than he would get in the Premier League with players on more. Perhaps we will never find out!!

'If Grayson is a fan then he of all people should feel passionately enough about the clubs future to stop lying.'
If you had confidence in your own ability like i'm sure Grayson does then why would you leave and risk the club going badly downhill? You may think i'm exaggerating but we all know the competitiveness of this league and if things took a turn for the worse relegation to league 1 could be on the cards like the situation with Wednesday.

Does he have confidence in his ability?
He doesn't have confidence in his players.
He tells us they don't listen to him.
He looks absolutely clueless in many games.
He is his own worst enemy if he chooses to keep himself in the situation with bates.
As per all the times when the fans can see a player is woeful ie painter but Grayson can't, it seems he is completely out of touch with where his relationship with bates is going.
It is a rather long time now since bates last told us about how his relationship with Grayson is the best he has ever had in football etc.

Don't think Paynter is the best example to use to be honest. With our main man Beckford gone we had Somma (brief spell in lge 2) and Becchio (not someone you'd associate with goals) therefore he brought in Ross and Paynter (on a free who had scored 26 in with swindon). Don't think anyone could foresee how well Becchio and Somma would do and the fact that we'd revert to a 451. Agree he's been poor and continues to be at Brighton (goals wise anyway), but can understand the signing.
The worst by far has got to be Collins although the blades eventually bailed us out and this season O'Dea because he was originally brought in as LB.

You're missing the point.
The point is he played paynter game after game and fans could see he was poor, Grayson should have been able to see it too.
Fans can see that it will end in tears for Grayson with bates. Grayson should be able to see that too.
If he therefore decides to keep himself in this situation he has only himself to blame.

Did Paynter even start many games though? i thought a lot of his appearances were from the bench.
What do you think Grayson should do?
a) Demand funding from Bates (admittedly risk the sack but at least he'd tried and shown ambition)
b) Resign like many managers do because they can't perform under the chairman
c) Carry on, get sacked because he will probably fail a very difficult task set by Bates (promotion from the championship with little backing)

If Grayson genuinely has clubs best interest at heart (which i believe he does) he should resign.
The longer he stays, the more he lies, the more ground we lose on ever being able to return to true top flight and the more he will be blamed for the mess when he eventually does leave.

Totally agree with everything you said Jonty.
Hunwickwhite,
You'd be correct in believing Bates doesn't want promotion.
Bates bought LUFC with the sole intention of making money out of it, he is and is robbing LUFC blind in the process.
Bates antics, and his invisible partners is down Robbie Kearne, who was telling big businesses how to buy English clubs to make big money, it was in papers and on news, everyone with eyes saw it or read it.
More importantly, Bates doesn't want promotion to PL cos there are a number of wolf packs waiting for him, and some would take great pleasure in putting Bates in Jail or deflunked.
Make no mistake, the Vultures are circling and the Wolves are raring to pounce.
Don't expect promotion while Bates or Grayson are at LUFC.

Bates is setting Grayson up for a fall.

LeedsLuvr, do you think that if Bates left NOW and a new owner released funds for SG to spend in Jan, we wouldn't at least make the playoffs? Morale at the club would improve and you would see improvement all round.
BATES OUT!

Actually no GBO, Grayson isn't that good.
If we had a new owner tomorrow I think Grayson would leave, by his own shoe leather or by the boot.
