Am I the only one who doesn't understand the hype surrounding this guy?
The guy was labelled as a tremendous prospect when he first broke on to the scene and was considered to be the best player to come from the Everton academy after Rooney. But after a few games later the hype surrounding him died down and people started labelling him as a overrated donkey. Again after a few decent performances he has been overhyped.
Now first of all I am of the opinion and have always said that we do not need another defensive midfielder. What we need is a creative midfielder/playmaker who gives us the final ball. That's what we are lacking. Yes I would love a tough tackling defensive midfielder like Tiote etc but a creative midfielder should be our first priority and I have been saying this for a long time.
Now coming back to the topic I till now have not got the hype surrounding Rodwell. Yes he looks decent but we already have Tunnicliffe at the club who is in a similar mould. Now I have seen many of our fans on this site calling for Rodwell to be signed. Utter bollox!
Rodwell is young, has put in a few decent performances and the most important is English. Now these attributes are enough to earn him a price tag of 20-25m and I would be absolutely gutted if we were ever pay such a sum for this guy. Same with that guy Gaitan(Yes I know those are just tabloid news but neverthless). Especially when Fergie has been constantly coming out with statments regarding "NoValue in the transfer market".
Now this may seem controversial but I am of the opinion that the majority of the upcoming English youngsters are just plain donkeys who are coached the primitive way i.e get stuck in, hoof, clear the lines etc. bar a few like Wilshire, McEachren, Morrison etc. Now I wouldn't mind if our starting XI did not consist of a single British player. Yes I know the homegrown rules etc but I am just being hypothetical. I would rather have a starting XI of foreigners who have technical ability than a British spine of overrated cloggers.
Fortunately our upcoming British youngsters are a bunch of technically solid players Welbeck, Cleverley, Morrison,Jones unlike our Merseyside rivals Carroll, Henderson etc.
Now my point is that there are far more better talents than Rodwell and they some of them would even cost less than 1/10th of him. We just need our scouts to spot such sparks (like chelsea did with Romeu).
Finally I am of the opinion that Rodwell would not be a very good buy especially if he costs something like 20=25m (I am not aware of his contract situation so cannot comment). For that some we could get a genuine world beater and not another English donkey.
Finally to sum up imo Rodwell is just another overrated English player (decent but nothing out of the world) and we would very well save our transfer kitty by not going for him. I would rather have his teammate Fellaini who looks very good though.

What part of the "reasonably happy" is so hard for you to grasp? I wouldn't be running up and down the street proclaiming the new king of football is arriving... and I wouldn't be doom and gloom, because we'd have signed a decent, if a little expensive squad player who could come good.

go on then, enlighten us... and please list players you have properly seen. I've probably not seen more than 20 Rodwell games in my life... only only 1 of those was actually in the flesh. So I don't even trust my own judgement on him...
I dare say you were moaning about Jones' purchase too, at the time, right? Ahh yea, you weren't one of the 90% of UTD fans who were crying a river about the wasted £18m

Have you got any proof that I moaned about Jones' signing. And what's Jones gotta to do with Rodwell? You are clearly backtracking now.
But hey Rodwell ain't a Sneijder/ Ozil or exotic named creative player, he is young and isn't a marquee signing and won't cost 40m so lets sign him.

Jones is a great example of how people change there tune after a few good games. That's why I bought it up.

Btw I have seen you on SW to that guy Nolhman a few months back saying that Obertan had the same amount of talent as Nani. So I can very well see why you are so fond of Rodwell.

Most likely it went something like this....
"Before Nani arrived, he had a dreadful season in Lisbon, but showed some glimpses of talent... Obertan has shown some glimpses of talent... so you never know. Fingers crossed."
Feed that statement through a Stretty clone though and it becomes "Obertan is as good as Nani".

I obviously won't bother looking into that article which was months back and I even remember that comment on Red_Indian's article but since he/she is banned from SW, the article won't appear on the site. But yeah I still remember you comparing Obertan to Nani and saying both have the same levels of talent and you really got ripped apart by Nolhman for that comment.
