HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION

Now first of all let me get this clear that I do not trust the nonsense that the tabloids spout at all. So anything regarding the Rooney saga has zero relevance to me.
But lets consider a hypothetical case. Just suppose Fergie has a bust up with Wazza and decides to sell him(In reality this won't happen at all. Otherwise why would he watch the game?)
So now we sell him for 65m. I believe that Rooney is well worth 65m considering he is one of the best strikers in the world and in his peak.
Now there are only 3 players in the world that I would have a 1 on 1 swap with Rooney. They are Messi, Ronaldo and Iniesta. I wouldn't swap him for any other player such is his importance. But If you had to buy anybody from that 65m who would you buy? Personally I would buy an out and out striker. Rooney for all his brilliance isn't an out and out number 9 which is what we lack. (Berba isn't a out and out no. 9 and Welbeck and Kiko aren't in their peak.) So an out and out striker like Cavani or Benzema would be my first choice.
Secondly a play maker would be essential who can provide the final ball like a Fabregas/Ozil mould. For all of Rooneys talent he isn't a traditional number 10 too who can provide the final ball. Since they won't come to us Mario Goetze would be my preferred choice. Goetze can play centrally and also on the left which would us more fluidity.
Now if we could get Cavani/ Benzema for 35m and Goetze for 25-30m I would be extremely happy.
So my preferred formation would be a 4-2-3-1 with Goetze, New striker, Nani and Young as the front 4. I would also sign a tough tackling box to box mf to partner Carrick.
So who would you guys sign as a replacement for Rooney? Once again let me get this clear that this is purely hypothetical and the equivalent of FM.

rooney is not worth past 35 million, and that is only because he is english

Wrong!

Carroll went for 35 mil and i bet you wouldn't have thought that one day before the deal was done. Carroll is no Rooney and Rooney is no Messi but football is football and Rooney would / could go for 65 large...easy!

Rooney probably is worth around £40m realistically but would defintely go for around that £60m figure to an English club as he is the top English player, at a peak age and when compared to other recent transfers of english players with much less ability.

For all those who say that he isn't worth 65m let me tell you one thing that our team is completely dependent on him. He along with Ronaldo have led us to enormous success.
If Torres is worth 50m then he is worth 65m imo as Torres' game depends on pace and finishing while Wazza has a much better overall game.
I have never said he is as good as Messi or Ronaldo. That's why I said that I would straight away swap him for them or Iniesta as they are way better. But to suggest he isn't a world class player is madness. He would get into every team in the world.

Of course rooney isn't worth 65 million but you have to look at the market rate for a player, torres 50 million and carroll for 35 million tells us all we need to know about the ridiculous amounts of money clubs are willing to part with to land their player, rooney could easily, and i mean easily go for anything between 50 and 70 million.

If I was playing Football Manager, I would have saved before the Blackburn game and we'd be 3 points clear now.

Is torres worth 50 million? Is carroll worth 35 million? The answer is actually relative- it depends on the system. Rooney to us is worth 65 million probably but because we have taken 6 yrs to teach him our ethos and system. Based on pure skill set he is not more talented than a silva or aguero to be honest talentwise city have at least 5 players on equal or greater ability to me who with 2 yrs in our system will have us saying wayne who?

The question is what a buying team think he is worth? No top 2 spanish team will buy him, just not technical enough. Maybe malaga or psg. Ac milan? The only reason city will be interested in him is because it weakens us. Even then they paid for clearly better players at already inflated cost. Which is not close to the ridiculous 65 mill. Does not just make sense.
