Sort of don't really know whether I want it to be true or not :/
On the positive side for Sunderland and Villa he has been prolific, no better England finisher on his day. He has though, always appeared a confidence player to me, there have been plenty of occasions on MOTD when he's been caught missing absolute sitters/open goals.
I fear he is very much a confidence player, will score plenty when in a rich vein but struggles when his goals dry up. £24m is a ludicrously big amount of money (wasn't it what Villa paid for him!?) & we all know that price is exaggerated because he's English - I just don't believe right now we should spend that amount of money on him...
Let's say for £15m max, come the end of the month I would much rather us be in possession of Luuk de Jong, Lukas Podolski or Klaus-Jan Huntelaar than Darren Bent - even with him being THE tried and tested Englsh centre forward.
One we will save money and I just feel after the signings of Adam, Henderson, Downing and Carroll maybe we just need to go out there a bit and bring in a new-found gem (Torres, Alonso, Garcia, Meireles, Suarez).
Just for thought though I'd take Bent for £15m, more than likely wouldn't happen but don't think I'd pay more for him, especially after our experiences with British players and price tags recently.
What do you lot think about the prospect of Darren Bent?
YNWA!
Darren Bent

One thing Bent does well is hold his line with the final defender and he makes some good runs, so you never know?
I have to say Liverpool are starting to look like the Liverpool of old

Cheers RED It's nice to have serious debate with a Man U fan once in a while.
Chris - GREAT shout with Soldado - completely missed him off my list and Valencia do need the money, he is a great player and I'd love to think that could happen.

There is a limit to the players we can attract at the moment.
The question is could he bring enough to propel us into the top four? On balance I think we could. The price tag would then be worth it.

Lucas Leiva is a class act
cheers fella, I do have my moments though, but I guess we all do.

Aggers - You'd be happy with Bent for £24m? I wouldn't be completely annoyed, but possibly better spent on two players, one £15mish striker and maybe somewhere else.
& RED666 - I've saw seen with my own eyes , here is to this morning though!

Lucas
Goalgetters are always at a real premium, there are so few about. Bent has proved it in the Premiership and I think he's in the all time top ten Premiership scorers in goals to game ratio.
If we can get back in the CL it's a different matter we would be able to attract even more quality.

I felt that Villa overpaid for him, but to sell my guess is that would at least want to recoup the transfer fee they paid.
I wanted us to sign Bent as backup for Torres a few seasons back. At £24m I would hope we give him a wide berth. He scores goals but I have never found him an east player to watch and he can go missing ib games.

He's not exactly the sort of player foreigners are going to dream of playing with

"... for me you you are at your best when play fast attacking football keeping the ball on the floor, which the exception of a couple of your managers has been the liverpool trademark. Carroll for me could be another Crouch."
Spot on Red666, and thanks for a reasoned and well though out post, kudos.
Ever since we signed Carroll we seem to revert to hitting long balls to him in hope, without having anyone get into the box to profit from the balls he wins.
Carroll has a good shot on him and we need to start using him as a striker by passing balls to his feet, instead of just lumping high balls at him when his back is to goal and expecting him to perform miracles.

Solado...good shout, I think he would be perfect for us!
