Viduka and Beckford - when things went bre asts up, neither appeared to give a sh it whereas Hughes always seemed to give 100%.

Skills were not even close but it was their attitudes that influenced their popularity with the fans.

JLA - no one's doubting the effort and work rate but the bottom line is that Hughes wasn't good enough simple as.

When was the last time a cart horse won the Grand National?

I don't disagree with you Benny but the question was asked about why fans reacted to the above players a certain way.

That's the answer, in my opinion.

Beckford thought he was too good for the club and those on the pitch with him, based on his behaviour. Hughes loved being at Leeds and it showed.

Beckford thought he was too good for the club....

JLA - we don't know that now for certain do we?

He scored goals and the most important one on the final day of the season which got us promoted.

I think the biggest issue withBeckford was the common theme in football today in that he was simply looking after number 1 and wanted a bigger pot of money.

That was his prerogative and we can't accuse him of not playing for the side come the end unless, that wasn't him that slammed the ball into the back of the net on the final day against Bristol Rovers right in front of the Kop.

Benny, did you read the last part of the sentence from which you quoted my phrase?

From January until that last game, Beckford displayed very bad body language on the pitch from the games I saw and accounts I read at the time.

JLA - absolutely Sir !!

For what it is worth I do understand where you are coming from but some players will forever divide us fans !!!

Happy New Year by the way.

Thanks, to you too!

Beckford still has the second best quote to come out of Leeds United for some time:

"What shirt am I wearing, Bruv?"
