In January 2009 all it took was two players. Two players who would add to the Celtic squad and help them to a fourth league title in a row. Two players who combined would have cost between 4 and 5 million pounds. Peter Lawwell decided that that would not suit the balance sheet and Celtic instead signed Willo Flood. The league title was lost and hasn't returned to Celtic since and as if to add insult to injury for Celtic supporters, Steven Fletcher and James McCarthy are now valued at around £10 million pounds a piece in the Premiership.
Celtic are now in a similar position to that. Perhaps Rangers are not as strong as they were then, however, the principal remains the same. Celtic only really need two players who would in fact almost guarantee the league title returning to parkhead.
Celtic could this month raise £2 million from the sale of players such as Rasmussen, McCourt and Loovens. If Lawwell was to cough up £5 million then the combined £7 million would more than suffice for the quality centre half and target man that would surely provide the Celtic support with a return to the wonderful Champions League nights of the past and return the SPL trophy to Celtic Park
