What Perspective?

I have been thinking about whether football/footballers should be looked at from a regular employment angle? Those who work knows that if at any time (particularly in this climate) if ones performance level drops below expectation, management would ask or investigate what is affecting the employees performance. Depending on the situation a second chance is usually given to prove ones self, if poor performance persist the employee might loose their job (what with the levels of unemployment around) there are others desperate for your spot.

Now just like normal jobs footballers are reward for carrying out their duties and obviously there is a level of expectation attached to their hefty reward, using a guy like Arshavin as a case study - he his a very good player who has not been performing up to standards and has been given several chances by Arsene to recover his form this season, in fact more chances than other under performing players, should he not be relieved of his duties so that someone more capable can fill in the position?

What is your opinion on this?

Legally I'm sure you couldn't do that, form is subjective so you couldn't prove anything.

8bit's right. It's airtight. You'd never make a workplace case against someone on that basis. He shows up on time, plays where and when he's told to and can't be held responsible for the actions of team mates which directly affect his output.

And there are players besides Arshavin (Walcott for one) who you could have used as a more apt examples, especially as Walcott is angling for a pay review, which management COULD turn down on the basis of performance.
