Have players not always left the club. In the past it was Hasslebaink, Batty, Speed, McQueen, Jordan (just some random names). Why are we thinking it should be different.
We have no right to expect players to stay. We don't know anything of the negotiations that take place. What I do know is our wage bill isn't one of a club who doesn't give a manager backing.
What we need to get back to is the days in the mid 80's when we had hope that we would do something, but the supporters who did attend ER got behind the team.
Is it any different to the past.....

cas..., its not so much players going, its the krap we get to replace the ones that have gone that is the concern...& we all know how players come back to haunt us...

Harj, agree. At the moment I have lost confidence in SG's tactics on the pitch and the players he replacing those that have left with. Why does he loan the loan market. I don't mind two/three a year, but he goes mad. Why can't we find players in the lower leagues anymore.

The bottom line about selling players is we are no
different to most other clubs, we sell according to our
status at the time...trade between clubs for players is
perfectly legitimate trade...the more powerful you are
as a club, financially, the less need to sell...that's why
manu can pick and choose the time to buy and sell.

i believe we do have/had the cash, i am of the opinion NJS..that all is not well at our club..and the sale of howson is proof enough for me...cas you're spot on 2/3 loanees for the year thats fair enough any more than that imo shows the club is not all singing & dancing...only one man to blame....

NJS
No problem with that but why are we being charged top dollar to watch the remaining sub-standard quality players. It seems to me, (1 amongst 000s actually) that Bates wants it both ways.

The trouble is we are selling players we can ill afford to lose, given the dross we get left with we've not got a snowballs chance in hell of making it to the prem

When Hasselbaink left we brought quality in and finished 3rd.
It's not just the odd player, all our best players are leaving and no quality is being brought in.

No quality players will come in. All these players you mention where sold when we played in the top flite.
