I have never listened to this programme before but this morning they discussed the mighty Terriers. I am listening to it now via the Talksport site. Will be interesting to see what is discussed.. found out about it via a Sean Jarvis Tweet.

Thats enlightning Eggnob,, What about the kids who pick up a rugby ball rather than a football when young, Or are you saying they have a sixth sense that tells them not to even bother with the round ball game,, And where does my 7yo nephew come into your assumptions as he finds football boring and loves the physical nature of rugby league ?

The magic weekend is a load of tosh,, Yes RL is a regional sport as such and the area that has more people playing rugby league than anywhere per population has been neglected while the RFL try to manufacture teams in areas that will never be a financial success,,,

Sir Bryce - I did say in "most cases" so i was generalising. That obviously leaves ...
1. Kids who grow up in Rugby League dominated environment where men are men and footballers are cissies
2. Kids with, shall we say, a fuller figure
3. Kids who enjoy close physical contact with other young males
4. Your nephew

EggNog,
It's little to do with having a fuller figure - Such as Alan Hardisty, Roger Millward and Rob Burrows, plus a host of others were midgets in rugby terms, but it didn't stop them aiming & reaching the top of their profession.
As for point 3, are you saying football is no longer a contact sport and that tackling should be fully outlawed?

mirf..
i think tackling is on the edge of being a lost "art"..
the european champs next year will possibly finally put an end to it..
although shirt pulling and generally grappling in the box, long, long before the corner/free kick is taken seems to be a fully accepted part of the "new beautiful game"???
I dont want to go back to the "old days" where enforcers were a big part of your team(having seen pictures of tommy hutchinsons legs(ex coventry winger)..) after a game where he was assaulted on a number of occasions.. but if we keep going down this line it will mean that defenders/holding midfield players will become obselete and messi will score 25 goals a game...maybe the way to go is to really come down hard on anyone found "guilty" of cheating and that only obviously daft challenges(we all know one when we see one-we dont require to be refs or alan hansen) are given much harsher punishments, whereas back chat., kicking the ball away, blatant time wasting and the niggly stuff results in sin bins etc, so the "crime" against a team is dealt with during that game and not sometime later when the player committing it then cant play against a totally different team??
3 sin bins for a team might lead to a penalty?? got to be better than having a player sent off and that team then closing up shop and boring the pants off all concerened??
they hold out for a draw and then that player is banned for the next game against "your" nearest rivals, so they get the full 90 minutes benefit?? cant be right can it??

There is also Mr Kindon, His dad and uncle played for Wire at league and he played union for England juniors keeping a little fat kid called Billy Beaumont out of the side, All before Burnley came knocking, His own words at the canalside the other week, He preffered rugby, Stevie must have obviously been a fat kid who couldnt play football who had gay tendancies ! according to Bob.

He certainly wasn't slim Jim, was a very one-dimensional footballer and have you heard him speak?

he might have been but im not telling him!!!!
preffering rugby might not have paid the bills???
Id prefer to have been a lifeguard on malibu beach for the 20 odd years i spent in the forces but it would not have been financally viable..
anyone good enough to play football professionally wouldnt choose rugby league for all the obvious reasons..

Like comparing Archery with firearms.
Skiing with Snowboarding.
pointless.
You can do it or you can't,
Enjoy it or you don't.
RL shot ITSELF in the foot when 'they' did away with the contested scrum.
Union adapted, left the game alone, but embraced the concept of 'Leagues'....& Flourished.
the 'fools' who run Football Should (But won't) adopt other sports discipline methods...they could learn a lot from either rugby code. The 'Ego's' are not just on the pitch re-Football ! (oh, & right on cue, off field trouble at TOWN )
No one will admit it, but the local media dictate to some tune what we as adults will patronise on Saturday afternoon.....
NO....?
Not many 'football' fans in NZ, wall to wall Union. (league comes a poor 2nd !)
The Springboks have a higher profile than football.
India & China, the most populous countries in the world don't set the world alight with football,
& Grid Iron, Hockey (Ice) baseball & Basketball obliterate 'Sahker'
The French, Germans, Dutch, Spanish go crazy for the 'DAKAR'... Britain struggles to even give it 'air time'
We then form opinions based on what we 'have seen' or 'been told'.........& that's just Sport !!!!!!!!!!
