For those not spending a penny more.......

From Ken's programme notes................ (no mention of Howson though)

"Where's the money gone?" is the latest chant from the vociferous few. Well I'll tell them! SG's player budget was £9.5m for the year. As I write we have committed £11.722m, over budget by nearly 23%.
It's bad business practice but a demonstration of how we have backed the manager and continue to do so. Incidentally, Income from Season Tickets and matchday tickets sales just about equals those figures. Consequently, all the other costs of running the club have to be earned from other sources..

Other points to note are...............

Andy O'Brien collected his loyalty bonus at the end of October, and less than two weeks later, said he didn't want to be selected to play. We assumed he had resigned but then he claimed he had been misunderstood.. The tribunal to adjudicate on that dispute has been set for the week commencing February 27.

Another fear expressed is falling gates and loss of interest. We haven't noticed it much......we prepare budgets well in advance of the following season. Last January we made our calculations, took the recession into our deliberations and assumed an average gate of 24,000. Before today's game, we are just 366 below that with most of our attractive games still to come. To counterblance that, we have greatly exceeded our cup, friendly games and TV targets, so we are comfortable. The prophets of doom are frustrated at least for the moment.

This confirms SG has had plenty of resources to get us into the play-offs at least. How many clubs in this division will exceed the figures quoted by millions (West Ham/Leceister excluded). We need to get behind the team, forgetting the demonstrations until 5pm when fans can shout up to him in his East Stand tower!!!!

LIW is right - There was a big chunk on top of the 7.7 for other wages

posted on 21/1/12

I know it was the football wages, but thus whole discussion is about players wages. You only said that to make out I didn't know what I was talking about and deflect the discussion from your incorrect statements.

Whats is incorrect

posted on 21/1/12

Talking about L1 wages and referring to them as the Budget for one, and saying the budget isn't 9.5m like KB says but is 11m which means we would mean only slightly over budget and not 2.5m over like KB said.

No am saying the budget is 9.5m but been increased because of players sales. That is right

And seeing has we never paid for anyone in league one the budget is the wages

posted on 21/1/12

so the budget IS but has been increased. Shouldn't you have said WAS?

Can't beleive this is still ongoing.
The budget would be set sometime in the summer. Therefore any sales and wage savings will be used on other players. The only problem with LIW's arguement is a £750k transfer probably means the club received £650k after the players/agents cut are taken into account but a £500k purchase would be more like £550k with the same player/agent plus FA/FL fee payable. So whereas it looks like a £250k profit it is more like a £100k saving.

How you think wE played Cas

Thought we were shocking

posted on 21/1/12

Don't think the conditions helped, but it was shocking. We couldn't string three passed together in the first half. Not sure what the team talk was before the match. Was no passion in the team until just before McCarthy showed his love for the club and got himself sent off.
