Is it time there was a winter break?

The fixture list around winter can become bogged down with postponements, take this weekend for example. A friend of mine was an hour and half down the M1 when he heard the Town match was called off. What a waste of fuel, time and effort!

So, is it time to consider having a winter break and resume the season later? Obviously, this would have a knock on effect with times when there are international tournaments. However, there has got to be a better way than the mayhem winter brings to the European fixture list!

Any views or suggestions?

i was at Maine Road for a New years day game, back in the 60's, when we missed a penalty and I threw my mars bar on the pitch in disgust...I'd only taken one bite of it...

I was a lot younger then...

Bloody stats...I checked again and it was 2003 / 2004. We played them on Saturday 23rd August and lost 0-1. We beat them later that season at their place on Sunday 25th jan winiing 2-0.
But other than that the only other time we played them was 94/95, which will have been the 1st season at the Mac..Which was 28th feb 1995 and it was a Tuesday, and we won 3-0...so that must have been the year last the time a game was called at the Galph/Mac

Depends on how much the Giants cut up our precious £700,000 new pitch today..They should pay more rent especially as they have 13 players running around on it and not 11 like Town do.

Add that into your formula Ken Davy...(sorry off topic)..

Thats the one, Mirf. It was revenge for the reverse fixture where we were tormented by John McCarthy and were walloped 3-0 in the pouring rain in probably the worst performance of that season. The same game where some numpty tossed a banger into the six yard box, stripping Iain Dunn of his final few strands.

The pie incident still makes me giggle, even now and I'm 32! Nothing wrong with a bit of harmless food flinging at matches.

Apart from when you're dodging razorblade potatoes at Filbert Street that is

No pitch damage to report, Just lots of excitement and great flowing rugby league, Albeit against poor opposition, But the Giants flung it about nicely, Kev Brown got a smack in the chops n got on with it, Without fuss and without seeking revenge and all the "Local" lads played well again for their home town side, Nephew played on the pitch afore the game for Slawit u8s and had a nice lap of honour with all the other kids at half time in front of just under 9k, Followed by a couple of beers n meeting a few players who were happy to chat and sign away in the FM bar for an hour or so ! Thats what i call VFM.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Oh very unhappy to report the whole of the Kilner bank stand and concourse below being unbelievably slippy underfoot, That smooth concrete is getting awfully dodgy at the moment, Bloody chilly aswell. That ok for yah Jacko ?
