Rooney is a great player and essential to United. There is no denying that. He is a fantastic passer and a decent finisher (he does miss a fair few), he has great vision and is maybe lacking abit in his final ball to be considered a true playmaker. But that's besides the point. My gripe is with commentators and fans creaming themselves over Rooney's 2 goals against Liverpool. Both goals were good not spectacular. The 1st was little more than a tap in although he showed good technique and the second was made by Valencia's tenacity and was quite straight forward. 2 good goals and goals expected from a player of Rooney's class.
However pundits were calling them "magnificent "! Magnificent for those strikes! Have standards dropped or is it just because its Rooney???
Extraordinary is his bicycle kick against City, this was normal good goals. Ok rant over, not a criticism of Rooney in any way more the English love fest media!
Stop ceaming over Rooney!

Lets be honest fellas, Messi is a living legend, simply amazing! 2 years younger but everything Rooney will never be in 3 lifetimes! If he were English or played for Man U?....................A 4th WPOTY award is coming soon. He just scored another goal and assist tonight!

Rooney's work rate, skill & determination Win us lots of games. He's the best player in the EPL. Everyone knows it. Man UTD wouldn't be the force that we are without him & SAF knew that when he persuaded him to stay last year.

Skiptowncat - We're not even talking about high pressure penalties here either, with the score at 3-0 and 3-1 respectively when Rooney took them.

This made me chuckle. Do you know what the end result was? Oh those low pressure penalties.

Messi is the bset player in the world by far at the moment, Rooney isn't even in the top ten. Only David Silva from the PL would be close.

I agree Mess is amazing, see him hit the post yesterday taking on 2 plays and chipping the keeper? Wow.
Dont see how you rate 10 players better than Rooney though, what wold be your top 10?

Personally my top 10 attacking players (off the top of my head) would be:
Messi
(huge gap)
Ronaldo
(huge gap)
Neymar
Iniesta
Xavi
Silva
Robben
Ribéry
Villa
Agüero
I'd put Rooney, Bale, Suarez etc etc in the second lot though, but he's not the world beater you all think he is.
