How anyone can put tonight's performance down to Lee Clark is beyond me.
Higgingbottom didn't play because Lee had his best performance in a Town shirt at Bramall lane. He was poor tonight and was taken off because of that.
Robinson played because they have pace in the centre and neither Miller or Johnson cope well with that.
We were the better team overall, and I think a 5-3 win to Town would have been fair.
Rhodes had 2 decent chances and hit the post with one.
Gobern had 2 free headers and put them both over.
Morrison had a header cleared off the line.
Their keeper also made a couple of good saves, notably from Wardy's free kick.
Clark can't put them in himself, and we had more than enough of the ball in their half to finish the game off comfortably.
Sheffield brought nothing tonight apart from a decent spell in the first 15 minutes, after that they sat back in their own half with 5 men at the back waiting to get the ball and play on the counter attack. They rode their luck and got VERY lucky on many occasions, and were helped in a big way by the referee at times who made some awful decisions.
Result aside, we did okay and took the game to them, everything fell for themand you could tell by their desperate defending they were scared sh-tless of us for 70 minutes of the game.

jacko..if a bloke heads in from a yard or two, keeper has to be involved in the blame game..
none of the above absolves clark from starting with alan lee and a very unwell/unfit/uninterested gary roberts..
gobern and robinson are playing where they are told, no central midfielder would want to be that deep for so long in games, would they??
by the way jacko, 2 free headers in the box isnt bad defending, its not defending at all.. we still dont clear the box quickly, maybe it wasnt p clark, maybe the whole stupid gameplan from back to front is lee clarks???

Chaps, I thought we did ok today, a word for the Sheff U team, thought they were very gud, particularly in defence, where would we be with Danny Wilson?

If Higginbotham was mom last week, why is he left out this week.?
Ok, Lee played and we lumped it up to him, but their CB's won almost every header, so AL goes off and we still lump it, and their CB's won Every header.
It's one dimensional, it's predictable and it's not going to get us anywhere.
yes we missed chances, but so did they..we conceded midfield, we couldn't get wingers down the line often enough, so plan A didn't work, and there is no Plan B as we know...
We also got away with some serious gaffs, esp Naysmith..and why when Gobern went off didn't Higginbotham play...I am stunned by it all, we're not classy enough and we don't work hard enough, and we don't have enough tactical nouce to mix things up.
But then, it's always been like that, on and off, so nothing changes really.

I have that Titanic feeling...sinking.
In a way it helps to think auto's are out of reach, and I can just reconcile myself to the play-offs and the reduced expectations are having a calming affect on me...

Jacko - Not once this season have i thought "yes this is it we look good", We are no better than a play off shot, simples, Pot luck then i am afraid, But i do not for one minute think Clark has the wherewithall to do it, He cant handle the pressure and therefore i dont think the players will,,,,,, One things for sure thougfh and that is that Oldham and Sadford will get a few good cheap as chips players when our next "gaffer" comes in at the seasons end, No ticket for me next year pal as i have better things to do with myself, Like get fit and get my handicap down below 22 which may be a challenge after my neck op,,,,, Go on the Giants, At least they put some effort in and dont earn all the gate reciepts in wages, Fooking tight bassa that Davy character you know.

the answer is, as its always been..if you have the players available to try plan b, then do it..do it early enough for it to make a difference..be a bit braver..
the goal was conceeded was shocking, but we didnt conceede another..the game was still there to be won, not still there to sneak an equaliser.. we made enough chances with plan a, plan b might well have been enough to get the goals required.. plan a ran out of steam with lee and rhodes and with ward drifting way out of the game.. gobern going off with another injury does not help in being able to change the tactics...
they looked good in the air and ordinary at the back on the floor...we failed to notice and take advantage..
Clark must be more adaptable in his gameplan once the game has started, he chops and changes the team from one game to the next but fails to make radical changes during the games themselves..
The idea that losing 1-0 or 2-0 would really make any difference is laughable... id prefer to see us try something and go for it rather than watching sheff utd have 3 corners in a row with 87 minutes gone with us losing 1-0!!!!!!
