Disappointing RT.
1-0 against one of the better teams in the division is not the end of the world, But after going behind after 5 minutes, & then only providing 2 shots on target the whole game is woefully inadequate.
Town should have been battering them trying to get that all elusive equalizer...& again it appears that has not happened, which is what you would expect from a team with ambitions of autopromo.

Even though it's a short thread. 5 from me RT.
you asked the question, & I have no answer.

certainly not Lee Clark, I hope he resigns, if not i hope we get smashed in next two games and he gets the sack, hands up those who who think we will win playoffs under his guidance..... NO, me neither.

This sounds terrible but i hope we avoid Stevenage in the playoffs, I really cant believe I'm saying that seriously!!

When we need to grind out the points we come up shorter than the odds on Harry being the next England manager. Top spot is out of reach and increasingly it looks like second is too so 3rd place at best, anyone up for the play offs?

DARN..
not sure where the stats you give come from..

we gave away a simple goal..we then should have scored 3 before half time.. we hit the post they cleared one off the line and jordan contrived to miss 3 fairly straightforward opportunities..

thats after matching sheffield utd wit the kick it up and see what happens game.. they are a little better at it than us..

We were nearly good enough again..

Question I ask, if Lee Clark had asked Danny wilson what formation and what tactics we should use tonight, Wilson would have replied.. "put lee up front and hit it long and high, my two centre backs are very poor on the deck but are very good in the air..Please also start with gobern and robinson in centre midfield, get them to sit together on your own back 4 and surrender most of the middle of the pitch, please"...

For thats what clark did for the first half, then brought woods on for the "always injured" gobern and cads on for roberts(who didnt look well)...

Hegginbottom, nowhere... I clearly dont understand professional football and Lee Clark is a misunderstood genuis who will only be appreciated after he dies!!!!!

we have played ten times worse than tonight and won plenty of matches and therein lies the problem...

We played to their strengths and ignored our own...last season we would have got away with a draw..

38.

stats taken from the BBC sport, 2 minute updates that I sit and 'watch'.....
Shots, Town 4- 5 Blades.
ON Target...! 2-2
corners......10-6
fouls...........10-7
possession 48% - 52%....

I'll take your word 'as is' 38. But you'll appreciate, Initially, I can only go off what I'm fed through this medium.
And why wasn't it on TV !!!!!
(or Charlt' v MK or Wed v Steven'
We ended up with Hyundai highlights from the A league.........

38..thats about right i reckon. They just had more energy and were better co-ordinated than us, in other words, better managed and coached.

Why no Higginbotham ? baffled !

darn i forgot to mention...hit it up and hope works if you have some pace chasing it or running off the big man, they do, we dont..
we put the ball behind them, they get across and clear it up the pitch, they knock it long, pcaey lad gets after it and we put it into the stand.. This happened everytime we got some pressure on...

I think on chances we should have won, should have is becoming clarks running theme, it will also be his epitaph at town..

Admitted, you cant legislate for a free header at the back post across the box and a free header at the other post whilst we stand and watch(smithies very much included in the blue/white striped onlookers) and he can really be blamed for jordan scoring 5 in one game and missing 3 sitters in this..

He can be blamed for trying to match up to the opposition rather than trying to do something different and playing into their hands.. I will blame him... there you go..

darn..we had 4 headers on target and their keeper made 3 saves from shots.. thats forgetting gobern failing to hit the target with 2 free headers from no more than 6 yards, one deflected shot that scraped the post with their keeper watching and rhodes hitting the post and missing the target in a one on one..
The BBC lie....

Lee Clark does not have a clue some one needs to investigate how he got his coaching course.

He makes changes and suprises everyone, i do notice his arrogance as when he is around canalside.

Typical Geordie thinks he is god of Yorkshire.

I said to my brother, when they got there corner, look at their number 10 at the back...he'll get this...he won against McCombe(?) , headed to far post where their guy outjumped Lee(?), unchallenged...easy peesey...game over. basic bad defending. Not Smithies fault at all, 2 free headers in the box=bad defending, again.

How anyone can put tonight's performance down to Lee Clark is beyond me.

Higgingbottom didn't play because Lee had his best performance in a Town shirt at Bramall lane. He was poor tonight and was taken off because of that.
Robinson played because they have pace in the centre and neither Miller or Johnson cope well with that.

We were the better team overall, and I think a 5-3 win to Town would have been fair.

Rhodes had 2 decent chances and hit the post with one.
Gobern had 2 free headers and put them both over.
Morrison had a header cleared off the line.
Their keeper also made a couple of good saves, notably from Wardy's free kick.

Clark can't put them in himself, and we had more than enough of the ball in their half to finish the game off comfortably.

Sheffield brought nothing tonight apart from a decent spell in the first 15 minutes, after that they sat back in their own half with 5 men at the back waiting to get the ball and play on the counter attack. They rode their luck and got VERY lucky on many occasions, and were helped in a big way by the referee at times who made some awful decisions.

Result aside, we did okay and took the game to them, everything fell for themand you could tell by their desperate defending they were scared sh-tless of us for 70 minutes of the game.

jacko..if a bloke heads in from a yard or two, keeper has to be involved in the blame game..

none of the above absolves clark from starting with alan lee and a very unwell/unfit/uninterested gary roberts..
gobern and robinson are playing where they are told, no central midfielder would want to be that deep for so long in games, would they??

by the way jacko, 2 free headers in the box isnt bad defending, its not defending at all.. we still dont clear the box quickly, maybe it wasnt p clark, maybe the whole stupid gameplan from back to front is lee clarks???

Chaps, I thought we did ok today, a word for the Sheff U team, thought they were very gud, particularly in defence, where would we be with Danny Wilson?

If Higginbotham was mom last week, why is he left out this week.?

Ok, Lee played and we lumped it up to him, but their CB's won almost every header, so AL goes off and we still lump it, and their CB's won Every header.

It's one dimensional, it's predictable and it's not going to get us anywhere.

yes we missed chances, but so did they..we conceded midfield, we couldn't get wingers down the line often enough, so plan A didn't work, and there is no Plan B as we know...

We also got away with some serious gaffs, esp Naysmith..and why when Gobern went off didn't Higginbotham play...I am stunned by it all, we're not classy enough and we don't work hard enough, and we don't have enough tactical nouce to mix things up.

But then, it's always been like that, on and off, so nothing changes really.

I have that Titanic feeling...sinking.
In a way it helps to think auto's are out of reach, and I can just reconcile myself to the play-offs and the reduced expectations are having a calming affect on me...

Jacko - Not once this season have i thought "yes this is it we look good", We are no better than a play off shot, simples, Pot luck then i am afraid, But i do not for one minute think Clark has the wherewithall to do it, He cant handle the pressure and therefore i dont think the players will,,,,,, One things for sure thougfh and that is that Oldham and Sadford will get a few good cheap as chips players when our next "gaffer" comes in at the seasons end, No ticket for me next year pal as i have better things to do with myself, Like get fit and get my handicap down below 22 which may be a challenge after my neck op,,,,, Go on the Giants, At least they put some effort in and dont earn all the gate reciepts in wages, Fooking tight bassa that Davy character you know.

the answer is, as its always been..if you have the players available to try plan b, then do it..do it early enough for it to make a difference..be a bit braver..
the goal was conceeded was shocking, but we didnt conceede another..the game was still there to be won, not still there to sneak an equaliser.. we made enough chances with plan a, plan b might well have been enough to get the goals required.. plan a ran out of steam with lee and rhodes and with ward drifting way out of the game.. gobern going off with another injury does not help in being able to change the tactics...
they looked good in the air and ordinary at the back on the floor...we failed to notice and take advantage..
Clark must be more adaptable in his gameplan once the game has started, he chops and changes the team from one game to the next but fails to make radical changes during the games themselves..
The idea that losing 1-0 or 2-0 would really make any difference is laughable... id prefer to see us try something and go for it rather than watching sheff utd have 3 corners in a row with 87 minutes gone with us losing 1-0!!!!!!
