Ricky Ponting is set to make an announcement on his International future today at a press conference in Australia. Is it the end of an era for one of the greatest modern day batsman?

He is not the greatest modern day batsman, Tendulkar is.

Did I say he was the greatest modern day batsman? Anyway, Brian Lara is the greatest modern day batsman, imo.

Ponting has been finding it difficult to deal with the waning of his talent. It happens to all top cricketers. It's a pity it's taken a selector to make the decision to retire for him.

Maybe he should have refused to captain the last few ODIs and focussed on batting. Hopefully he still hangs around in the test arena anyway.

Yeh I hope he sticks around for another year and announces his retirement before his last game. He deserves the sort of adulation that Mcgrath and Warne got.

I think when you get close to thend a player needs challenges to keep going. Having recently played England, South Africa and India with the ashes 18 months away he might call it a day. Unless he and his wife fancy a pleasant caribbean holiday against the WI this year.
