Daft woman on Clyde tonight

claimed that Celtic's change of name in the early nineties meant that they were no longer the same club and so had not won the European Cup.

She failed, like some rangers fans to appreciate the historical significance of the name change.
1. Celtic were formed as an Athletic and Football Club because PH was used for cycling and running. This has not been the case for a long time and the club has focused excusively on football with no athletic connections for over 75 years.
Celtic decided to drop the Athletic part from their name, but remain the same club and same business.

2. If rangers go into liquidation, THE CLUB NO LONGER EXIST. A NEW club being formed can assume the title rangers, but not simply rangers. They would have to have add ons such as a date 2012 or Glasgow etc. They could be reformed with a completely new name.

This woman and the commentators on Clyde failed to pick up this point. Several times the daft woman referred to Celtic as not having won the EC simply because they adjusted their name by removing the Athletic part, obviously because they no longer have an athletic aspect to the club.

Huge difference between a club ceasing to exist and simply changing their name.
If a club ceases to exist then their trophy accumulation dies with them. If a new club is formed using part of the name that NEW club can not assume the trophies of the old club, just as any other existing club in the country cannot assume the trophies of the now defunct club.

Got a feeling that the issue was not grasped because some on Clyde want the new rangers to be able to assume the trophy record of the old.
Daft or what.
PS. if the new club assumes the trophy record of the old................could they then assume the HMRC and football debts.

The thing I found absolutely risable was that none of the commentators actually took up this point. Surely they are not daft enough to try to support this point of view.

Doesnt really matter. Even if we go down the NewCo route, we still keep your history. Uefa have set a precedent for this.

seen your post about this on the gers board, im not convinced, if you are able to forfit your history of debt like Fiorentina done then surely you forfit the rest of your history aswell you are a new organisation it should work both ways

Eh..wasn't the daft mare also missing another point. Haven't Rangers themselves been a plc and de-listed and changed their status several times already...no 54 titles anyway by her logic. They are dangerous when they get that desperate

Dunno, till I seen uefa's stance on it I would probably have agreed with you.

That team was totally gone though! A year went by when they didnt even play!

Uefa still handed them back all theri historical achievements when they were NewCo'd though.

To be honest, Im not even that bothered if we lose the history. Better than nothing! Least we will have a cleaner record than you lot when it comes to disciplinary situations!
