Can liverpool win the CC every season?

Liverpool are the only big club who take the CC seriously. So could today be the start of a long run of dominance for Liverpool in this competition?

"Honestly if I win, I win, if I don't, I don't. I won't lose one second of sleep over it. I've had a great career and enjoyed it but is it defined by trophies? No – and it never will be. I don't even know where my Scottish Cup medal [won in 2005 with Celtic] is."

Who said that ? Craig Bellamy this week.

and here is another quote
"Towards the end of the meal he asked me what I would choose if I were offered an FA Cup winner's medal or another season in the Premier League. The answer, as I told him, is another season in the Premier League. Sell out I may be but stupid I ain't."

you are thinking like a fan and not like a player. Players are selfish and think of themselves, the prestige is in the Champions League whether you win it or not. Most of the foreign players or their families will never even have heard of the Carling Cup.

-----------------

What are you talking about? They may not have heard of the Carling Cup per se, but they all know that there are cup competitions in every league in the world. And as a player they will want to win those.

The Carling Cup is the lesser of the 3 trophies available in England, but a trophy is a trophy.

The Champions League is the biggest tournament in club football, but its not an achievement just to play in it. Its an achievement to win it. Do you think that a player will reminisce about the one time they played versus Real Madrid or the time they won a trophy.

Players are selfish, and being selfish they want to win, not just take part.

again you are thinking like a fan, you want your club to win trophies, so do I. Players have different priorities, look at my previous posts for quotes from your own Craig Bellamy, he doesn't care less if Liverpool win the cup today or not. I am afraid that is typical of the modern day footballer. This isn't a pop at Liverpool all players are like that. One of the worst was Ronaldo who valued his personal awards - World Player of the Year etc. above cups and trophies.

Funnily enough I've just listened to an interview with Steven Gerrard on 5live who said that, maybe its selfish, but as a player you want to win trophies and he'd rather do that than just qualify for the champions league season after season...

Gary Neville: "What motivates me is to keep winning. To be part of teams that win things, the hour after the game, the night of celebration - it is the most incredible feeling you are ever going to get in your life. I have had it quite a few times but you never get enough of it.”

I'm not going to look for other quotes as I have a cup final to watch. And I bet every player there wishes they were playing Panathinakos in the Champions League rather than playing at Wembley and possibly winning a trophy.

I may be wrong but I am pretty sure Gary Neville wasn't talking about the league cup when he said that.
