Never ever wishing to see any football club fold...BUT..if Portsmouth do in fact fold, as it seems they could, will that mean an extra promotion place from League One this season ?
Will that mean 3 auto places, then 4th to 7th in the play-offs...
Here's a question....

I haven't read the whole thread so don't know if anyones already said this but the official football league rules dictate that only 2 teams would be relegated instead of 3, maintaining a 24 league tier system. Personally I think it should be a play-off between 4th from bottom and the loser of the playoff final...

A 2 division drop would punish Conference teams who have worked hard within tight financial constraints to be successful. They should have to go the same way AFC Wimbledon went and start at the bottom and work their way back up, thats the only fair thing to do.

cas that would add spice to the end of the season. that would defo be a fair way to decide.

town should not benefit from another clubs demise...i feel for the people of portsmouth as they are the innocent ones, but the ones who will suffer if they fold!
we are in league 1 cos this is our level!

How can making the side that finishes 4th bottom in the championship having a play off with the loser of league 1 play off final be fair ?? Are you going for "summer football" Cas ??, The promotion of two sides from the conference will not be affected if only 3 drop from league 1, (if pompey drop 2), The 4th bottom side in league 1 would be the only side that benefits as they would stay up this season rather than dropping down. Fairest way i can see things panning out.

I see that the "parachute payments" from their PL relegation are being paid directly to their ex chairman. Thats why they are knackered as without that they could never keep paying the silly wages they are doing

Pompey seem to have had foriegn speculators, foriegn dreamers and wide boy after wide boy in charge,, The FA and the football league should be made to take a share of the blame for what seems to be a constant mis-management of income down the fratton,,, It wouldnt surprise me if a wealthy Pompey fan tried to sue the FA and league for failing to do their jobs properly,,, Fit and proper tests dont work very well when all and sundry are lining their own pockets with backhanders.

Bryce did you read the BBC article about the real reason things like the Portsmouth takeover are allowed by the Football League:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17171866
Basically being the poor relation to the PL they are too scared that if they make an error in blocking someone then they will be sued to oblivion. Only thing that stops you is a criminal conviction, being "dodgy" isnt a problem.

Have the gone bust yet?

loui..
they went bust about 2 seasons ago..they have been playing on the "promise" of the "cheques in the post" for at least a season and a half now..
their debts massively outweigh their assetts and they are in deep deep do do... apparently selling their whole squad for the "going rate"(which will never happen in a fire sale) would only account for less than a quarter of the debt..(a debt which goes up by thousands and thousands on a daily basis)...
they would be better off getting into pompey on a friday and sat night and selling their ars- to the sailors.. the club would just waste their "efforts" anyway....
