If Liverpool continue with the young British (or at least premier league) players strategy. Do you think it would be better just to buy good players regardless of age and location?
I know we aren't football experts to the degree of management and footballing directors but sometimes I wonder how clubs sign players like they do. Particularly Liverpool this season.
It doesn't take a genius to identify a good player to an average player. It also doesn't take a genius to know a good deal to a bad deal. For example - Podolski - 95 caps for Germany at the age of 26. £11million, Jordan Henderson - 1 cap at 21, £16million. Or even Carroll £35 million with 1 cap to his name (at time of buying).
I suppose if these players bought had scored and got assists and we were in the top 4 it would be fine but there isn't even a - at least they were a bargain - to full back on. Liverpool have spent as much money as a team that should push for the title.
It's not the players fault etc, so who's fault is it? Someone should take the rap! I would love to see a predominantly British side as opposed to foreign players but to pay the prices demanded is just ridiculous. Could have probably spent half the amount this season on players of better quality from abroad.
What was so wrong with Shelvey and the others in the youth or reserve teams? They can't be much worse can they? If we want to nurture - nurture what we have got don't buy others for shocking prices. I do think the team can gel and produce wonders but I pray it's next season we see it. As Kenny etc. say it's a work in progress.
He has 3 years - perhaps Carling Cup and FA Cup this year, EURO next, and the league after? Job done. We can hope! One or two additions, Players like Henderson, Suarez and Carroll with each other 3 seasons, maybe, just maybe!
Anyway, what are your thoughts on all this?
It will be interesting to see...

Simple truth is that in recent times, Liverpool had one god season built off of a great CM, and Gerrard off of Torres.
Now Both the CM's and Torres are gone and Gerrard isn't anything like world class anymore.
I don't think Liverpool will be title contenders again untill the rest of the pack fall away. You've declined too much to claw yourselves back now, and you're going to have to wait until City do what Chelsea are doing now, Spurs slip down by their best players wanting to play at bigger and better clubs like what happened with Mascherano and Xabi Alonso, and pray that when Fergie leaves UTD, his replacement fails badly.
You are a gone threat in terms of the league for at least a decade now.

Yes like I said he may be out his depth , however he does put in a shift and was our best player versus cardiff!
But He may be out his depth!
Hendo has improved since the start of the season!! But played well out of position!!

Henderson is a good player. His through balls are amazing.

City did it, bought brittish or pl based players, then went out to supplement the squad where needed.
We are doing something similar but it's going to take longer with less money

WOW he was our best player against a championship side where pretty much all other members out the starting 11 were awful
plain and simple, Downing, Adam, Henderson and Carroll have all been terrible signings. FACT

I think KK just needs to bring in a natural RW an Experienced Striker and another young striker and possibly a versatile midfielder who can play LW/RW/CM
That way, Henderson moves into backup for CM coming on as a sub in various games for Gerrard/Adam because we have a natural RW.
Adam gains more competition for his place with Hendo/Spearing/Shelvey vying for a place.
The versatile midfielder ofers up competition for Downing and the new RW
And the two strikers offer up plenty of competition for each other and Carroll.
I think the main problem this year has been Downing, Adam and Henderson realised fairly quickly that no matter how badly they performed they were pretty much guaranteed not to be dropped. A healthy bit of competition certainly won't do any harm and maybe we would begin to see the improvement and consistency that we have craved from them all year.

Ah the old buy British policy myth raises its ugly head again.
Downing
Henderson
Bellamy
Adam
Carroll
Total 1+1+1+1+1=5
Still with me? I'm trying not to be too advanced.
Suarez
Enrique
Coates
Doni
Total 1+1+1+1=4
A ratio of 5:4 British players to foreign players, in a British league. Is that strange? Well it may be to some. Those who cannot count or those who eat the propaganda they are fed and those who speak before engaging their brains.
