English player prices have always been inflated. You look at players like Darren Bent, Phil Jones, Downing, Carroll, etc…..all of these have been sold for £16m+. Would you get the equivalent in Spain? Would you get a Spanish striker with one cap going to Real or Barca for 35m? No chance. Even when buying players from Spain. Mata, Silva (world cup winners, international players, both cheaper than Carroll, makes no sense)
It does make no sense! That's why we should fill gaps cheaply and effectively. Carroll was not the answer, not for that price! But he might be worth it one day... 20+ goals a season and he would be. Form at the moment he is not even Premier league standard.
Carroll was a panic buy!
Tottenham were making all the right signings at the time and were eyeing up Adam and Carrol! Torres was waving a gun round everywhere on Transfer deadline and shot us, then shot himself with a move to Chelsea leaving us to panic buy Carroll! He was promisng, english and young... But obviously for the short term future he is offering nothing and could do with being loaned!
Adam yes (imo) and Enrique class signing!
However I never got the Henderson signing? We have Gerrard, Shelvey and now Adam... Why did we need another CM? We needed a RW, so we get a promising CM and play him as a winger when we already have 3 CM'S?
Where the player comes from should not be a problem, weather they good enough should be! There's no point in buying British players just because there British, when there not good enough! The age thing is different, buy young players with potential should be cheaper and provide a good profit when selling!!!!!!
Yea we have it all backwards, paying finished product prices for starlets, not stars. I don't understand it either. We even had Meireles at the time, losing him was a mistake I thought
But these up and coming talents are usually from teams that don't do so well in the premier league, so they see it as a way to try and even the field a little bit, hence the over inflated prices.

Exactly, I never quite got the Henderson signing?? Not saying he's rubbish!! But not what we needed at the time?
Liverpool have spent as much money as a team that should push for the title.
--------------------------
Not sure how you work that out to be honest.
Jordan had the third highest key passes in the league last year, was Captaining the u21's and multiple clubs were in for him. His club did not want to sell him. That's why he cost £16m.
The young British philosophy was to build a strong foundation for the future with the British quota in mind.
The aim was to achieve champions league so we could then attract the top foreign talent the following summer.
It makes perfect sense but it looks like we have failed to achieve Champs league though which is the problem.
The team has performed very well generally but have been unable to put chances away. Had Carroll been in the form he was for Newcastle and Suarez able to put a few more of his chances away, hadn't hit the woodwork 21 times and missed 5 pens then we would be well on course for a top 4 place. Even if we had beat arsenal like the performance deserved we would be in with a good chance.
No excuses mind, it's our own fault for having such a poor chance conversion rate.
The Carling Cup is finished for another year so the opportunities for youngsters will be limited from now on. Shelvey's had some opportunity to stake a claim but has been passed over for Spearing. Similarly, Flanagan had a chance but fluffed it. Just going to show that football at the highest level is a tough game.
I for one will be praying we DO NOT keep up this policy.
Downing, Adam, Henderson and Carroll have all been terrible signings like it or not
Adam has been hot and cold
Downing looks promising but possibly out of his depth, Jury out IMO
Hendo looks a prospect, but where to play him and why did we really sign him as its not a position we need filling really?
Carroll... lol loan him out where he can start most games!
Come on now, Downing looks promising??
0 league assists, 0 league goals!!!!
Henderson does NOTHING yet he starts every week? terrible singings
Simple truth is that in recent times, Liverpool had one god season built off of a great CM, and Gerrard off of Torres.
Now Both the CM's and Torres are gone and Gerrard isn't anything like world class anymore.
I don't think Liverpool will be title contenders again untill the rest of the pack fall away. You've declined too much to claw yourselves back now, and you're going to have to wait until City do what Chelsea are doing now, Spurs slip down by their best players wanting to play at bigger and better clubs like what happened with Mascherano and Xabi Alonso, and pray that when Fergie leaves UTD, his replacement fails badly.
You are a gone threat in terms of the league for at least a decade now.

Yes like I said he may be out his depth , however he does put in a shift and was our best player versus cardiff!
But He may be out his depth!
Hendo has improved since the start of the season!! But played well out of position!!
Henderson is a good player. His through balls are amazing.
City did it, bought brittish or pl based players, then went out to supplement the squad where needed.
We are doing something similar but it's going to take longer with less money
WOW he was our best player against a championship side where pretty much all other members out the starting 11 were awful
plain and simple, Downing, Adam, Henderson and Carroll have all been terrible signings. FACT
right im gonna stop talking to you lol!

He has potential, but he isnt the ancer to our right sided problems!
I think KK just needs to bring in a natural RW an Experienced Striker and another young striker and possibly a versatile midfielder who can play LW/RW/CM
That way, Henderson moves into backup for CM coming on as a sub in various games for Gerrard/Adam because we have a natural RW.
Adam gains more competition for his place with Hendo/Spearing/Shelvey vying for a place.
The versatile midfielder ofers up competition for Downing and the new RW
And the two strikers offer up plenty of competition for each other and Carroll.
I think the main problem this year has been Downing, Adam and Henderson realised fairly quickly that no matter how badly they performed they were pretty much guaranteed not to be dropped. A healthy bit of competition certainly won't do any harm and maybe we would begin to see the improvement and consistency that we have craved from them all year.
Ah the old buy British policy myth raises its ugly head again.
Downing
Henderson
Bellamy
Adam
Carroll
Total 1+1+1+1+1=5
Still with me? I'm trying not to be too advanced.
Suarez
Enrique
Coates

Total 1+1+1+1=4
A ratio of 5:4 British players to foreign players, in a British league. Is that strange? Well it may be to some. Those who cannot count or those who eat the propaganda they are fed and those who speak before engaging their brains.
