Where is Darren Fletcher?

posted on 25/3/12

Scholes - deep lying playmaker
Anderson - box to box if anything
Cleverley - deep lying playmaker or number 10, has the atrributes to be either
Pogba - box to box from what I've seen of him.

We need either a holding player who can play a pass, like Javi Martinez, a box to box player like Vidal or a deep lying playmaker like Sahin. If we change to 451 we also need a playmaker, like Kagawa.

I think Martinez would be a great player and ideal long term replacement for Carrick. Sahin or Vidal would also be excellent but have recently moved clubs. I would be happy and pleasantly surprised if we got any of the players I've listed.

We have a nice mix but lack real quality in the midfield department.

We need Luka Modric

posted on 25/3/12

Think Modric would be ideal but that won't happen.

God knows who we will get if anyone.

Pogba perhaps removes the requirement though ???

He is young but clearly good enough for us.

Phil Jones is not a midfielder.

SouthLondonManc (U12028)

modric would be good signing but he would cost in the excess of £30 million and i doubt we have that kind of money and even if we did i cant see fergie spending that amount money of another player again

Is Pogba "clearly good enough"?

This is going to be the same as the Cleverley scenario where people were really building him up.

carrick - defensive playmaker (easy one)
anderson - Box to box/attacking Midfielder
cleverley - Advanced playmaker
pogba (assuming he stays) - Attacking midfielder
scholes - Deep-lying Playmaker
darren fletcher - Box to box/defensive Midfielder
phil jones - defensive mid?

posted on 25/3/12

carrick - deep playmaker
anderson - box to box
cleverley - central midfielder
pogba - central midfielder
scholes - deep playmaker
darren fletcher - box to box
phil jones - box to box

Also
Ashely Young - Attacking midfielder

I would like to see a really tough DM. We have plenty of ability and promise in the more advanced roles.

Tunnicliffe is back from loan now and he's looking even bigger than when he left. That'll be box to box midfielder sorted.

Ever ask yourself why Tunnicliffe's loan was cut short?

posted on 25/3/12

It wasn't cut short, SAF only wanted him loaned out until January so it was extended.

Source?

Because a month ago SAF said Tunnicliffe was playing for the reserves to get game time as he's not been in the Peterborough team.

posted on 25/3/12

He couldn't get a damn game at Ptsbrgh that's why his loan was cut short. Accept it he won't be United quality ever.

He played 28 games for them, that's hardly not getting a game

If anything it was Cleverley's loan spell which went poorly too. Almost always played out of position and not always played.

Having seen Tunnicliffe playing in the academy and the reserves I think he'll be better than Fletcher. I'm not expecting him to be Roy Keane but do think he'll be decent.

I'd be over the moon if Tunni and Pogba (along with Clevs already) make the squad.

To get 3 midfield players come through the ranks would be huge. Not only will they know each others games well, they will have the UTD mentality and be loyal to the club (not so much Pogba, but certainly the other two).

We might even see a few games for Petrucci next season.

posted on 25/3/12

Petrucci, I think, is SAF's secret weapon. The lad is quality.

posted on 25/3/12

he'd be top of the list, of the new kids, were it not for his injury.

With a bit of luck, we could see clevs, welbeck, tunni, pogba and petrucci come through the ranks. That would be a huge return.

Fryers, Will Keane and others may follow too.

Petrucci has had no luck at all since we signed him. He was thought of as the "new Totti" when we stole him from Roma. Hopefully he'll stay injury free for a while to get back up to speed.

Someone wrote a good article on types of CM a few weeks ago
http://www.ja606.co.uk/articles/viewArticle/95400

Using the types outlined in here, I would say:

Scholes - passer
Carrick - interceptor
Cleverley - passer (though different to Scholes)
Fletcher - attacking box-to-box (but I think he'd be better as a destroyer or defensive box-to-box as he was a few years ago)
Anderson - attacking box-to-box

Don't know about Pogba, not sure which category he fits into.

Also won't analyse Petrucci, Norwood or Tunnicliffe until they begin to break through into the first team (if they do) as I don't see them often enough
