Stoke sniffing too...good news for DH, wouldn't blame him for putting a bit of it back in his own bank though would you. I certainly wouldn't, might appease his missus...

I hope we get a good price for him,he still had a long while on his contract to run having signed a new one just before Christmas. The main sticking point here is,are the 2 clubs both prepared to pay for a player who is still recovering from serious injury? If we get 2.5 million for him that's fair enough.Norwich and Leicester have both bid for Mackail-Smith as well, have they not?

Nothing to do with Pilks, but have heard KP is training with Town. Probably means nothing as I think he did last summer as well for a short time

Won't be Leicester matey, only selling to premiership club. Think we'll get £3m + add ins, or maybe get a player swap deal.

Not a chance we will get 3 million for Pilks in a million years ! I dont think we will get 2....

if the going price is 1.75 million then thats all someone will pay..
they will all make the same offer then the "horse trading" will be about personal terms..
anyone who offers him more money and its written in his contract that he does not have to track back will get him..
i wanted boothy to be successfull when he left, same with marcus, i dont give a sh-t about how pilkingtons career goes.. he didnt give enough for long enough for town...

young lads who overestimate their ability, importance and their worth...

seen too many come and go in football it appears most never learn..

he just didnt play well enough for long enough...

Well why are prem clubs after him and why for so much cash , what did theses clubs see in him , what you haven't seen , after all these are football people we're talking about not somone of the street , am not saying you don't know anything about football by the way 38.

English born players will be fetching a premium, with new FIFA regs coming in...if we get £2m that'd be good business..what did we pay for him...??

posted on 3/7/11

If Leicester want him they'll buy him because they can out muscle Norwich with wage offers....

Sven has been told there are no limits during this transfer window (His words, not mine).....Expect to see Messi and Ronaldo roll up soon then

i think which club pilks goes too will show the real reason why he left the pharm...

if its for not so much money to a prem club its ambition , if its for a big wad of cash to a championship club who might go up next year then we can be pretty certain its greed

Don't you think all the criticism of Pilks is a bit excessive ?
If he hadn't have signed the new contract in january he could have stayed here another year then gone on a free and been able to negotiate himself a more lucrative deal, leaving Town penniless from the sale. Now that would have been mercenary.

We don't know what was said when he signed in january, the deal might have included an 'escape' clause if Town didn't get promoted. If both parties knew this then it was a deal to ensure Town got maximum money from any sale, which Pilks must have agreed to.

Also, after such a bad injury it must have been in Pilks head that his career could have been over..and then he would have been released by Town on no wages, on the scrap heap. I'm sure this brought it home to Pilks how tenuous his career was and that was the motivation for a big pay deal for himself and his family, and Town.

I don't know how many of you on here having a go at him would have turned your noses up at a doubling/tripling of your wages for doing the same job of work.

If surveyed I'm sure 99% of people would forget loyalty to an employer if they could get a massive wage increase somewhere else, so isn't it hypocritical to be criticising him.

Let's just wish the lad all the best, and be gratefull for the money we will get for him in our bid to buy our way out of this league.

I agree with what you are saying Jacko,my point is he is still young enough to play in the top flight so all I wanted from him is just one more season,he could have left after that.I don't think it was too much to ask,I think he thinks he better that he actually is.Yes we will get a decent fee from his sale but I would have rather had hin in the squad.

One more thing that hacked me off is one minute he's saying he's looking to get fit for the season, looking forward to the Bury game, then in the next breath he's telling Clark and Hoyle he's off.Now that's what's hacking some people of most Jacko, don't you agree?Barefaced lies.

Pilkington was leaving in January. End of.

Hoyle persuaded him to stay till the end season only. They doubled his money and gave him his get out clause.

Pilkington is exercising his get out clause. Simple.

You know how footy works..I'm sure Pilks WAS looking fwds to pre-season training and playing against Bury, then his agent rings up and says I've got you £30,000 pw at so and so, what do you want to do ?
Suddenly the situation changes.
Okay, if he knew he was definately off then he might have avoided saying anything, but then I question what happened between that tweet and then saying he wanted to leave...? Something made him change his mind..it might have been his agent, or something that went on at Town that he didn't like...(LC's new contract, DH's intentions for next season, a sudden fear that he could get crocked in the first game...) I don't know...but I'm sure if he DID know he was about to slap in a transfer request he wouldn't have said what he did. The only circumstances when he might have is if his agent told him to commit himself to town, publicly, to force up a deal with another club..

We will probably never find out why the sudden change of mind, there's no more tweets from Pilks so he's obviously been told to keep quiet now by somebody.

You are all assuming the worst about him, but in reality unless we know the facts then it's a bit unfair to take that stance..I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt until proved otherwise.

Look at Sam Bulllock going for an interview at P,bro after MKD finally agreed a £1m bid...he gets there and has a quick look around and then says he couldn't possibly get motivated to play there and goes home. fergie and mac are furious...(not that I'm bothered about them), but it just shows how quickly things can change..

Tis probably true TC, But lets not have anyone saying Town would have washed their hands of him if his injury was worse than it has been,
Under Hoyle we have shown a great attitude to help injured players and their rehab, Tom Clarke and Damian Johnson are just two examples of our clubs loyalty to players, Johnson could have been sent back to Plymouth when injured, As other clubs do with loan players.

U would have expected that whoever he was going to would have pulled out by and will wait to see if he regains fitness & form

I guess he will have a thorough medical before anyone signs him up..but to pay that sort of money for someone who is still in recuperation seems folly to me too.

posted on 3/7/11

I too have to agree again, You would have thought that the prospective buyer would put the deal on hold till he proved his fitness and the made their move in january for a fully fit player rather than pay a fair bit for a potential crock, Makes no sense to me.

posted on 3/7/11

For me if there is any chance a team wan'ts to wait till January and see if he regains fitness and ability, great they will have a long wait cos I would never pick him again.....and the only fitness he would get would be in the gym (no reserve team you see...)
