it was a real sign of desperation that we had to do that apparently.

I remember the day he came back at the "council house" in the FA Cup, the bitters laughed.

Paul Scholes hasn't been on the losing side in the league this season.

Desperation or Fergie masterstroke ???

CHAMP20NS !!!

if scholes hadnt come back, someone else would have stepped up. I so hate these scenarios which give credence to preferred state of mind. I remember vidic getting injured and how we will not be able to cope. Last yr with rooney and his drama and how berbatov could not do enough. Ronaldo left and valencia could never replace him, now everybody talks about him with one hand on their junk.

growth by players in a football team comes out of the pressure of first team football. You either grow or you wilt away. Injuries are perfect situations to test out young and fringe players. To me, it is basically the only bright spot to injuries. I would be equally as happy if we threw in pogba or will keane. We may not win the title but we would have developed either by knowing what pogba has to offer (and if it is worth the stress he is creating). Fergie himself has said he is reluctant to sign midfielders because of the youth coming through in that position, why then when fate presents you with basically a command to try them out does he just wilt?

Scholes has done a good job and could easily do it again next year, but am not happy about his coming back. it is fergie just being unwilling to suffer the growing pains required, instead using "quick fixes". History tells of the consequence of this type of mentality.

Not sure who would have stepped up.

Cleverley is always injured, Anderson is always injured, Fletcher is ill.

'we may not win the title', you say that like its no big thing, the premier league title is THE trophy to win. fergie wasnt going to risk it with youth players, instead he should continue to ease them into the first team than throw them in the deep end, with all the injuries we suffered with anderson, cleverley, fletcher, it was a masterstroke bringing scholes back, the youth will eventually get their chance, prob next season

youth players being promoted or league title, i know which one i would choose

Modric, Arteta, Cabaye, Allen, Dembele(who's been playing deeper recently) and Pizarro are all better than him

Joe Allen. If he played for a big team pundits would be creaming themselves over him.

Yea i know, winning its all that matter right? Not how its done. Someday we are going to have to pay the price. There is no way this transition is going to be done without paying a price. This yr, the price we paid for losing vidic and bleeding de gea is champs league. Does not matter how long you postone it, transition WILL come with a price. So yay, we won the league. Did we answer any questions in midfield? This our squad actually improve this yr? How many of our talented youth players took the step forward?

We finally "move on" only we didnt. Great for transition stage.

--------
Scholes > Modric
Scholes > Arteta
Scholes > Cabaye
Scholes > Dembele (are you having a laugh?!)
Scholes > Pizzaro (A player who can't even get into the City first XI, yet is a better player than Scholes who has been arguably the best player the PL has ever seen?)

And i thought you were a decent poster.....

You haven't mentioned Allen so I take it you agree he is better? Top man

posted on 9/4/12

No, i don't think he's better - i think he has potential. I'd like to see him consistently perform for a few years first!
