Mourinho knows how to spend and he gurarantees you success. Just because Mancini doesnt know how to spend that doesnt mean I can put that argument to rest.

not spending money = no chance at success

trophies are bought. Some just pay more playing catch up to the current trophy buyers

dont you think city will add more "top shelf" players to their squad in the summer though?

City were flying in the first half of the season, whats to say they wont be stronger next season?

I´m not convinced by that at all.

Mourinho made quite a few truly awful signings as Chelsea manager.

Most of our best signings were actually made by Ranieri and it was Ranieri who nurtured the likes of Terry and Lampard.

Jose doesn't have a good transfer market record. Especially considering he could always afford and attract his top choices.

Well if that´s true then Man City will have to spend about another billion as their first 500 million spent has only bought them 1 FA Cup so far.

You can't really use this because Carlo won the double

City right now isnt an attractive place to go to. How many of Europe's top targets will definitely choose City over United/Chelsea/Arsenal/Spurs? City have the money for the wages but what else have they got? Can City really afford to keep handing out ridiculous wages for average players just to sway them? This was the year for City to win the league. Their pulling power would have gone through the roof as English Champions but they messed up the league challenge, messed up the CL. Are they really that attractive a club to go to? What about FFP? They're 197 in the red They cant just go out and spend willy nilly again.

Teams take time to gel. Years.

Not buying much would probably benefit them

Superb do you honestly not believe that City will not win a title in the next couple of seasons? Or do you think they will need to spend 7 years winning domestic cups/lesser European trophies before they can hope to win the league?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Time will tell although so far City only have 1 FA Cup to show for their half a billion investment on players ?

Exactly. They'd be better off by not spending and keeping the manager and the team. Would be a better way of getting success rather than sacking Mancini and then hiring a new guy who would want new players .

Have Chelsea not spent more than City over the past ten years and are 3 places below them in the league?

posted on 9/4/12

Not sure how true this is but:
City 550m since 2009
Chelsea 540m since 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------

In a word no.

The spending on new players is about the same over the last 10 years.

The difference is that City have spent even more than Chelsea did in the first 4 years of acquiring a mega-rich owner.

The difference is that within 4 years of Abramovich arriving at Chelsea we´d won 2 titles, the FA Cup and 2 League Cups as well as getting to 3 Champions League Semi-Finals in that time.

By contrast the Arabs only have 1 FA Cup to show for their 4 years at City and half a billion investment so far.

there is an element of too many 'big' teams now

When Abramovich arrived Chelsea had a larger pool of players to pick from. Basically whoever Manu hadn't already bought

If another billionaire comes in now, there are even less players to choose form

Plus you didn't answer my question.

Yes I did. Here it is again below.............

My answer is that time will tell and nobody can predict the future. All we can go on is what has happened so far and so far City have spent half a billion with only the FA Cup to show for it

stupid to say success is measured by trophies

-----------------------------------------------------------------

What is it measured in then ?

Are you like one of these Arsenal fans who are delighted with a top four finish and no trophies ?

Besides as a Chelsea fan I´m constantly told that Chelsea has no history simply because we didn´t win a lot of trophies or titles over the last 100 years (which ironically isn´t true anyway).

So I would say that the public consensus is that trophies is undoubtedly a measure of success (whether we agree with that or not).
