no because england need to build for the future.

i would take him. why not? as you point out our cup is not exactly running over......

I would take Holt, Rooney, Walcott and Sturridge

There is no harm giving him a go in the friendlies, just to see how he fits in. If there's some promise there, there is no reason why he shouldn't get a chance.

You never really realize how bad England's strikeforce until it gets to Tournaments.

Welbeck should definitely not go, I'm not a huge fan of Crouch either, watching him play football just irritates me. It should be Rooney, Holt, Sturridge and Bent if he's fit in time, if not then Defoe.

England will be dismal whoever they take, may as well be someone who would appreciate it like Holt.

I wonder what Sturridge and Walcott would be like as the front two.....

Holt seems like a good laugh.

Sure, take him. Why the heck not?

Welbeck will go for sure, but he's not even that great. United have struggled finding a consistent partner for Rooney this season, and Welbeck is the best they've got.

He's decent, and had a pretty good first half of the season, but he's by no means clinical.

Compare that to Spain, for example, who could "choose" to leave out Torres and still have a strikeforce better than most of Europe's best

Meh, I dunno. Personally, I would use the Euro's as a learning curve for the younger players, preparing them for Brazil in 2014. I don't think taking Holt will be of much use to the national team. May seem harsh, but they have to look at the bigger picture.

Spain are wondering if there's going to be space in their squad for Santi Carzola and England are considering taking Grant Holt

Yes, but is there not a chance of us getting our pants pulled down at the Euros if we take the youngsters?

"Yes, but is there not a chance of us getting our pants pulled down at the Euros if we take the youngsters?"

Because the 2010 World Cup was a special moment of pride in English history.

Rooney
Sturridge
Welbeck
Defoe

That is who I would take.

It could be even worse at the Euros. We have to accept that England are not going to challenge the best in European and World football.

No target man?

I'm not too fussed how England do, although I would like to see some good young players getting a go, provided they deserve the chance.

If Kyle Walker gets on that plane then England will be lucky to get a draw in the whole thing.

Exactly, the 'old guard' hardly covered themselves in glory in South Africa. England needs to revamp the squad. Obviously I'm not suggesting taking out all of the experienced heads, all at once, but the likes of Terry, Lampard, etc. need to be moved aside for the national team to move forward.

Walker is all but a certainty to be going. Rather him than Glen Johnson though.

Why shouldn't Holt go? What international experience do Welbeck and Sturridge have who everyone seems to want to bring? Almost the same amount as Holt, who at least has scored more at club level, and also brings that extra dimension.

I would take Walcott, Sturridge, Holt, Defoe and Rooney. Bent too if fit.

spurtle - Take Walcott as a striker?

Rooney being banned will affect England big time. He's the only striker that can be labelled world class. The rest of the strikers that are meant to be at their peak are just club level players.

I'd take Rooney, Walcott, Sturridge, Crouch and Defoe.

I want to see Walcott-Sturridge up front while Rooney is suspended. That's alot of pace.

Shame they don't really have a playmaker other than Rooney (1-man team or what).

I'd take him. You want player who aren't going to miss chances and really try and win the ball, Welbecks hardly the most clinical and Crouch isn't a world beater. He definitely deserves a chance off this season's performances. He's been very good

But no-one to hold up the ball. If those two were to go up front, it is likely that all moves would break down, unless all passes were made for them to run onto.

I think Holt with a quick striker alongside him could be very effective.

Grant Holt would definitely be going if this was the situation in any other country. The media in this country are so obsessed with playing for a big clubs that its quite possible that dross like Andy Carroll will go and an in form hold up man like Holt will stay at home.
