Never Thought I'd Ever Agree With Tam Cowan

Initially a lot of bears seemed to show some humility about their plight. No fault of theirs but they seemed to accept that this might be a sore one for 2/3 years. Seems to me that they're becoming increasingly indignant now that reality is kicking in and potential punishments are being mentioned.

The spl/sfa are incompetent and should have had these sanctions for clubs who overspend in place but bears surely can't have thought they would just get a wee slap on the wrist surely !

They don't want their tainted titles taken from them that were bought fraudulently but also don't want punished now that they've been rumbled .

WTF !!!!!

Tell you what, we'll take the same punishment Tam's mob got when they got in a mess....

Did Motherwell purposefully avoid paying tax and VAT?

Did Motherwell undergo an Insolvency Transfer Event, ie. go into liquidation, and re-emerge as a newco as is being put forward as a possibility for Rangers?

Tell you what

No you won't

I can't actually remember the details of the Motherwell situation but there is a clear irony in someone calling for severe punishment for us when his own team got none.

That's because Motherwell exited Administration...

We've been punished for going into administration. What was Tam's team's punishment for that?

We're not talking about administration here though, are we?

We're talking about potential punishment for going into liquidation and emerging as a newco. It's a completely different situation to what happened at Motherwell.

We've already lost 10 points. As I understand it, if we go into a newco it's proposed we'll lose 20 more. A 30-point penalty in total. Plus we'd lose 75% of our SPL money. Plus we'd be barred from European competition for 3 seasons. And no doubt we'd face various other difficulties. But some folk would never be happy no matter how much we were punished, short of extinction.

Newco is extinction...you gotta feel sorry for them

But BH, you could potentially wipe off £135m in debt.

Kind of puts your 'punishment' into context does it not?

Apparently not !

Not in the way you mean. We face very significant punishment and very difficult times. If the other clubs vote to keep us in the SPL it'll be out of their own self-interest not because they want to do us a favour or whatever.

Now you want favours

I'm happy enough for Rangers to re-start in the 3rd division if it comes to that. I think a lot of Rangers fans agree with that.

What has annoyed me this week is the fact that these new rules appear to be just getting made up to punish Rangers as no other SPL club bar Celtic could cope with the level of punishment proposed. These rules should have already been in place as Rangers financial problems have now been known for three years.

What also annoys me is the rules also seem designed to keep Rangers in the SPL for the benefit of the other 10 clubs. It sums up the position long held that the 10 non OF clubs are content to simply leech of the OF.

If we cannot pay our debts and have to go Newco then we have to start over, simple. What is proposed though is unacceptable for all involved and if they wanted them to be the rules they should have already been in place.

Motherwell never got their ten points deducted retrospectively when they went into Admin.

The rule wasn't there...however, their admin led to the rule being integrated into Spl constitution

"Seriously, though, Scottish football is now in grave danger of sending out the clear message that cheating will be tolerated."

The first sensible thing that fat t.t has said.

Can't believe I'm agreeing with Cowan.

But he has pretty much nailed it.

Integrity is not a romantic concept. It is fundamental. Who would invest in a league that is stitched up in favour of one side?

Come oan berz, just say it.

Mea Culpa.

You will feel better once the club apologises profusely for tainting the game in Scotland.
