so maybe you could now answer my questions Jonty

Do judge a player on one performance at international level rather than the 400 odd he has made at club level?

Could explain why he has gone on to double his number of caps since that game if he is so terrible?

Seriously, one game against Russia makes him rubbish does it?

Do people want promotion.

Saying players like green will not get you into the prem.

He will want a 3 year deal( at his age he want security) and if he did get up, he's nowhere near prem standard so will have to be paid up.

When will people learn. We need quality not "can do a jop type".

Same with that carthorse clingan, everyone wanted.

Not good enough and not at an age where will improve.

And matty, must players arent as quick at 29, than 23

Matty, I never said it did make him rubbish, hence my response to IGOR agreeing that he would be a better bet than Derry.

You just seem to want to fight with everyone on here though.

Where have I judged him on one performance?

As for Ireland caps, they sam to give them away these days, would you say that makes O'Dea a good player then?

LIW, I think he's a better bet than Derry, if we did sign him, would have to hope Warnock could make a team greater than the sum of it's parts.

Got to agree with LIW.
I said last week, I worry that Warnock will put together a strong championship team but will leave us in need of half a team if we get promoted - look at QPR, only fielding 3-4 of the players who got them promoted whilst Norwich & Swansea have built a team around the great players who got them there.

From the sounds of it, Pearce would fit the bill of a player who could have a prem career, but the likes of Clint Hill, Paddy Kenny and even Sean Derry would need replacing if they got us promoted, IMO.

Still, we can talk and talk about potential signings, we'll know nothing until August when Colin puts out his first team and then we won't be able to evaluate until Xmas.

Lets get promoted first rather than worry about what to do with the players once we're promoted...

posted on 23/4/12

Better then Derry?

Yet derry a prem player and has won promo and played at bigger and better clubs.

No he's not.

Jonty mate, I actually disagree. I used to think that, let's get up - we may even bring in another manager (per what Warnock was hinting at when we got him) but with the prem that much more difficult this year, our budget constraints and the fact we have a manager not entirely proven in the prem, I'd rather ensure we 4-5 young players to build a team around than get up there with 4-5 players at the end of their careers.

But we got up to Div3 with exactly those sorts of players and made the transition.

I think if you're waiting to build the team it will never happen as your talent will be poached along the way.

We got up with Snods, BJ, Killa, Beckford & Howson (plus Gradel in parts). Young, hungry squad that would have got us promoted last season had we been better managed.

Your argument was about 4/5 players to build a team around, we got rid of 5 of the 6 players you mentioned!

I expect we'll get a few decent signings from Portsmouth. bates lucky day, Portsmouth have a squad that's too good to get relegated, full of decent players they need to offload to reduce the wage bill after going into administration. I expected this kind of thing would happen and we'd be given a false impression of the benefits of doing things on the cheap.
......
So are we going to be the only team after there players?

Biding wars will happen between teams. That will put the prices up.

posted on 23/4/12

bates won't over the odds though or what he percieves as the odds

posted on 23/4/12

Yep Jonty, but that was Bates' fault - and look how we got on this season without them!! We wouldn't sell our best players if we got up (one would hope!!).

You post a link to one game he had and ask me to justify him being a good player based on what some poor website says about one game he had.

So yeah, you did judge him on one game.

Matty, maybe you;re reading skills aren't up to scratch.

I didn't ask you to:

"justify him being a good player based on what some poor website says about one game he had."

What I actually asked was how do you explain the website's comments about him.

Lurker got it and answered perfectly reasonably.

You as per usual went off on one.

Not sure we're still the biggest club as our attendances have dwindled.
......
Jonty, don't look at the paying customers through the gate(although I am 1 of them),we have a world wide fan base and no other club in championship club comes close.this season is more of a boycott against bates running of the club.take away the ex prem clubs parachute money and we have the biggest turnover so hope you are more sure now

again I answered you, its just that I didnt give you the answer that you liked, or maybe you have trouble with someone answering your question with a question, maybe you get confused too easy.

So let me ask you this, why are these comments even relevent?

Why should he be judged on one bad game he had at international level?

If you dont think he should why did you even bring it up?

its called a forum matty, I think you'll find people will ask questions and express opinions etc even if you'd like to try and censor what people ask you.

Nah I answered your question.

You asked me to tell you explain a comment from a website to you.

I did.

Now you are crying about it cause I gave you an answer that made you look dumb by pointing out one bad game dosent make you a bad player.

And I always answer questions directed at me, unlike you.

Paul Green spotted getting the tour of Ellend rd.
.......
Igor, green maybe a leeds lad but that is as far as that 1 goes, maybe be a good 1 to be able to bring on but leeds will have better 1st choices next season.steady Eddie type of midfielder is what I would call green.

Another slanging match…

Anyway, don’t really know Pearce so can’t comment on what he will be like. I’ll reserve judgement until I see him play more if we have signed him.

posted on 23/4/12

You are both dum if you think he is better then Derry.

posted on 23/4/12

Igor where have you heard this
.....
Frank,he has not heard this.derby fans seem to think that because he turned down contract with them he is heading to leeds.I for one would be not be impressed.

matey take a leaf out of Lurker's book and learn how to answer a question simply and you won't get wound up so much.

Super, if what IGOR said was right, can understand why he's wanting away, but if not, it would be interesting to know why he'd want to leave.
