I enjoyed the X-men films.

How comes people don't criticise singers/actors for earning a lot in the same way they criticise footballers? Is it because footballers actually have a base salary?

Gazza but non-football fans are equally quick (if not more) to criticise footballers' pay.

Federer's sponsors pay him more than $40 million per year.

That was a guess. $120m film, he is now synonymous with the character, no other major stars in the film, it doesn't make any money if he stops play Wolverine. Wouldn't be surprised if he got a deal like that.

More likely he got a smaller salary but a decent share in the profits/revenue.

tbh i think a better example would be Johnny Depp and th Pirates franchise built entirely around his character, he can effectivly demand a blank cheque knowing as well as ayone thatt if he walks that whole franchise is dead in the water

Think it's partly because you choose your musicians/films. You don't really get to choose a football team, a lot of us anyway. And you definitely have no say in the finances. If you don't like a musician but they are successful that's fine. It's a more subjective area. Football is a little bit more objective, in that players can clearly underperform. And this is where the base payment stuff comes in.

I think it's because people feel that actors/musicians earnings is more performance related.
