There is this distinct possibility, certainly Zouma still has a lot to learn, but possibly may have already reached his best
Azpi is not what he was, and for my money is most effective in a back three, - but it's not our go-to formation...although i'd like to see it tried with Chilwell & James as WB's
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He maybe past his best, but he is still our best defender. Absolutely brilliant for us after lockdown.

Team v Varchester?

Mendy
Azpi Silva Zouma Chilwell
Kante Jorginho
Ziyech Havertz Pulisic
Werner
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He may go 3 4 3 like he did in the FA Cup.

If he does then it will be

Azpi. Silva. Tomori

James. Kante Jorghino. Chilwell

CHO. Werner. Pulisic

If he goes 3 at the back I would give Mount and Havertz a rest.

———————Mendy

James Jorginho Kante Chilwell
———————Ziyech
—————Werner Giroud

Don't see Cho starting vs United. Likewise Giroud, hardly features atm.

Kovacic maybe more suited to a 3-4-3 as he can cover more ground

But guessing a Lampard side is hard work

I wish we had bought a really good DM this window. It would hage given us so much more tactical flexibility

Glad Martial is suspended, he usually torments us

I think it’ll be a similar side to Sevilla which I believe is close to his ideal starting side right now. No rotations of the likes of Abraham/Kova into the side. Ziyech is the only one who I’m not sure if Lampard will bring him in, as the logical one to drop would be Mount in this 4-2-3-1:

Mendy
James/Azpi Zouma Silva Chilwell
Jorginho Kante
Ziyech/Mount Havertz Pulisic
Werner

Really don't like facing this United side, so jammy and pretty much guaranteed a penalty per game

Don't like Mount and Havertz together. Plus Pulisic on the right is another dislike.

Ziyech instead of Havertz/Mount from the Sevilla game

posted on 22/10/20

My preference would be to just go ahead and drop Mount for Ziyech. I like Mount but just don’t think his quality justifies being a key starting player in the side. By far our most talented front four (in 4-2-3-1) and biggest potential to be a productive attacking unit is:

Ziyech-Havertz-Pulisic
Werner

This is my concern as well when you play Pen Utd. You know that they'll get a pen as well as any other jammy decisions. We'll probably get a player sent off for next to nothing as well.

Seeing as Lampard and Southgate are trying to kill mason mount this weekend I’d go
Mendy
James silva tomori chill
Kovacic kante jorgino
Havertz
Giroud Werner

Keep it tight, and then switch it and bring on pulisic, ziyech, cho and the troops

Don't mind us starting with a conservative midfield of Kante Jorginho and Kovacic.

Mount vs good in the cup game v these lot, he'll start

In fairness Lamps was pushing hard for Declan Rice but it didn't materialise. Probably because we'd already spent so much.

I have to admit our midfield doesn't convince me much. Kante doesn't look like the player of yesteryear. And I don't think it's where he's playing. He should be able to operate well in a midfield two.

Jorginho is good at some things but I don't think he's right for us. That he's playing just shows that we haven't got anyone else at present. Kova probably should be playing more but at present he isn't.

I just hope Gilmour can come back quickly because I suspect he might actually be our best midfielder. Better than Jorginho anyway and hopefully he replaces him when fit.

Do you think would we be doing better in the short term if we had spent the Kai money on Rice?

maybe, still a short sample size and still not sure on Rice. Could be a huge bust.

Never seen him play npe, will have to see how he gets on for the sc(_)mbags.
I still think we have strong midfield options. Just a shame that jorgino, who i rate, is too slow imo for the pl or top level.

dont know what lampards reasoning is behind his squad management, which imo is his weakest trait.
Totally putting members of the squad in the cold during his time here.
Giroud then tammy.
bats.
Jorgino.
Heavily relying on kovacic and now he doesn't seem to start.
Tomori.
Now rudiger.

I hope he talks to these players, but theres absolutely no reason at all that giroud has hardly played this year.

posted on 22/10/20

His treatment of giroud early last year only to rely on him at end of season, and jorgino last year completely in the cold only to rely on him this year, is particularly weird.

I agree. In any other year I think we'd have moved Jorginho on in the summer. But there was so much going on in the transfer window that it just didn't happen. Sarri getting sacked by Juve didn't help either.

posted on 22/10/20

Yeah 100%, we would have probably got rid of him, one of alonso or emerson and a few others (bats more than just a loan).

Still not 100% on rice though, could be a huge bust, see him overrun for west ham a fair bit and then he plays a blinder. Raw potential or just the type of player he is.
A lot of players dont excel in that position till later in life as well (pirlo, makelele, keane, vieira). Usually most good dms start as a box to box and then regress as their legs go a bit.

I personally think Rice a sit all and if it aint us it will be City or Liverpool for him. Hope it is us.
