I don't think the team is too bad. 4 CB's playing out of necessity although Maatsen could easily have played. Palmer must have a knock or something as surely he'd have started today. Shame that Nkunku still isn't available but he shouldn't be rushed back just to get injured again.

Or it was time to give Mudryk a chance. We should not be relying on a player of Palmer's age to play every game in the same way we shd not be relying on Silva to play every game at his age.

Generally because our managers always seem to err on the conservative side whereas fans want us to play more attacking football/players.

I had a sliver of hope Maatsen might get a start but it's clear Poch doesn't rate him (despite his solid preseason and brilliant loan at Burnley). He's 100% going to be shipped out in Jan to help with FFP.

Tbf, with CBs and our fullbacks, it probably makes sense to have someone like Mudryk who can provide genuine width as opposed to Palmer who often likes to come in centrally

I don't think it's because Poch doesn't rate him. It's something else, his contract situation or whatever. Maatsen is a top player and there will be a long queue of PL clubs for him. We could have used him much more in attacking positions this season but to our detriment we haven't.

True, we'd be very narrow on the right. Sterling back on the right gives us natural width. I'd have preferred Palmer in the 10 role instead of Gallagher in this instance though.
