Someone will pay £35 million for Maatsen if Dortmund don't. I'm surprised that Maresca wouldn't want to keep Maatsen as I think he can play that inverted fullback role as well as Cucurella.

I'd keep both Maatsen and Cucurella as our LB options and sell injury crock Ben Chilwell.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We really don't know if Maatsen is any good or not or if he will become so. Poch obviously didn't fancy him for some reason and it seems Dortmund have a value cap on him, which is also a bit strange.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well he's played well in a team that came very close to winning the CL.

I don't know how many games he has played or how many times you have watched him play full 90 minutes but he is unproven in the PL and Boswinga is a CL winner, so I don't your point carries substance.

He's been their mainstay LB since he went there. The general consensus that I've seen is that he's been good since he's been there. He's certainly been very good for the most part in the CL games I've watched him in.

Have you seen any reports saying that he hasn't been good out of interest ?

I think Cucurella and Maatsen are more similar in the way they play LB. Both inverting into midfield.

Chilwell offers a different option with his runs in behind which is valuable, except he can never stay fit.

Ideally imo we should have one LB who can invert and one who can run in behind, or, if possible, buy a star who can do the lot.

Forza - played a few rounds of Robinson Crusoe. It was a rough go as we had some very bad weather about 4 days straight and were suffering because of it. Morale was low and we were lacking in resources. Had to go exploring in hopes of finding useful treasure. Discovered a book that was a sad read which took our morale to the lowest point and ended up starving because we exhausted the supply from all of our ponds and trees. It was a sad end to our life. Wish we would’ve just drowned.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sure did but we had to move a couple of times on account of the earthquake taking out a sector that we used for resources. So kept going down by half and then once the weather dice came into play we kept losing wood because of all the snow.

I also found some gold but it was useless as I was on a deserted island.

From what I've gleaned from Maresca football (obviously still learning) it looks like fullbacks who can invert and join midfield when needed are going to be the priority. Not sure Chilwell really fits that mould at all plus the huge question marks over his injury record are another concern. Can see us moving Chilwell on if Maresca is here for any length of time.

We have all been pretty critical of Chilwell (me included), but if he can stay fit (perhaps a long shot) and at his best (not very often this season) he is a much better player than Cucurella. There’s no reason he can’t play as an inverted midfield player - even if he hasn’t played there previously. He’s a smart guy (for a footballer), so I’m sure he’d pick it up quickly. But of course his fitness remains a concern.

The problem is that Chilwell definitely can't stay fit, he's shown that over and over. He's undoubtedly a good player but I'm not sure how effective he'd be if asked to play in tighter spaces. His strengths seem to be his off the ball runs as opposed to being able to beat players on the ball when he gets forward. Cucurella by comparison has proved that he definitely can operate in those spaces and seems to come into his own if anything.

I'd say it's difficult to know who's the best out of those mentioned but Maatsen has definitely made a case for himself based on what he's done at Dortmund this season. He looks like he belongs at CL level.

Why Poch decided not to play him is a mystery but we were doing well in preseason with Maatsen in the side and then when Maatsen was taken out of the side at the beginning of the season we had a terrible start and first few months of the season. Coincidence? Who knows.

Definitely agree that Chilwell needs to go though. Sad but true.
