Despite that success, Chelsea owner Abramovich has been unsure of whether to offer the Italian a permanent deal as he was thought to favour a move for departing Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola.
However, the Russian billionaire is now ready to make a U-turn and offer Di Matteo the position as he is not confident of landing Guardiola and is unconvinced by the alternatives.
"I think Di Matteo will stay for one year," an ESPN source said. "It might not be ideal, but I am sure he would take it.
"I am sure he wants the job and will go for it, believing he can prove he is worth keeping. There is sure to be a decision sooner rather than later."

My main memory of KPB was against Spurs in 2008 at the Bridge.
Joe Cole was running with the ball and KPB rugby tackled JC but didn't bring him down.
JC just tried to carry on running dragging KPB behind him with his arms round his waist - hilarious!
Birmingham injury time equaliser!
Chelsea chief Ron Gourlay has rubbished Barcelona rumours for David Luiz.
Gourlay insists Luiz is staying in SW6.
He said: “The value of David Luiz was there for everyone to see on Saturday night.
“Of course, we'll keep him. We're the champions of Europe. We shouldn't have any problem keeping hold of our players.
“I'd be disappointed if our players weren't attractive to other clubs. That just shows where we are. People are interested in David Luiz because he's done fantastically well.”
2-1 Chelsea - beautiful goal as well - great finish!
Apparantly talks with Porto have ended as a price for Hulk couldn't be agreed.
No suprise there then Steve!
Their president should have been born arab - he just loves haggling!
Brummie - Not sure if it's true or not. Wouldn't surprise me though. Last reports were that Porto wanted 40M and Chelsea were going as high as 30M. But going off all the reports there was still a difference in what both clubs valued him at.

You can watch him playing for Brazil now: http://www.firstrowsports.eu/watch/124400/1/watch-brazil-vs-denmark.html
Sideshow - Dosen't really matter if he does tbh. Chances are Porto will reject it. Will be a case similar to Modric's imo. He's said he's happy at the club and he's got a great reputation with the fans etc. I don't think he would fully go all out to force a move.
B'ham just equalised again!
Pehaps we should do business with them in Sheckles!
