Continuing to make reference to an incident that undoubtedly had a huge impact in footballing terms, for Everton FC, which happened 27 years ago, to some how use in direct correlation, to explain your current, or recent failure to move forward, is quite simply, ridiculous.
----------------------------------

What's ridiculous is your inability to accept that it's a fact, that the event in question was a massive contributing factor in Everton FC's slide from the top of English football.

As I said earlier it's a fact, whether you acknowledge it or not, is irrelevant.

No, TB, no.

As said other clubs came through it okay and remained competitive. Everyone was banned, not just Everton, so how come ourselves, Man Utd and Arsenal could remain competitve on the trophy front?

You can try and blame it entirely on Heysel but jloo is correct. In fact other fans have at least offered other reasons.

It will be a combination of things but seeing as you are the one who is trying to have a pop at LFC most of the time it does, in fcat, make you the biggest hypocrite on here.

Your club won the league, 2 years after this incident happened. Other clubs were unfortunately effected in a similar way, yet managed to retain their ability to challenge for honors, teams that funnily enough, included Everton initially.
Runners up in the league and the FA Cup in 1985-86, League champions 1986-87.
Fourth in 1987-88, and runners up in the FA Cup final 1989.
Started the 1989-90 season really well, but fell away later on.
So we are up to 1990, and Everton still relatively competitive.
So there were things to build on, but they were not realized for whatever reason.

Hoody - you haven't got the faintest idea what you're talking about.

Liverpool & United were already successful & well supported 'brands' all over the UK, Europe & beyond due largely to their European exploits. We were not, we won the ECWC in '85 & would have then progressed into the EC in '86. It was our chance to get ourselves onto the european top table, an opportunity that we were then further denied in '88.

The timing on the ban co-incided with when our star was at it's highest point in decades & as I've already described it lead to the break up of our team & the loss of our manager.

If you'd have bothered to actually full read what I'd previously posted, you'd have seen that I'd said that it was a contributing factor to our demise - I never said it was soley repsonsible, there's been many poor decisions taken since that have taken us to where we are today.

But only a biased, one eyed idiot, would attempt to suggest that EFC having the opportunity to lift the European Cup (twice) removed from, couldn't have started a chain of events that the club has never fully recovered from.

Liverpool fans also contributed to their team falling from being the dominant team in British football to where they are now,a midtable club who are good in cup competitions.

Those years British clubs were banned cost Liverpool FC more than anyone else.Players in the past had the choice of joining Liverpool FC and play in Europe or join Manchester United and earn more bunce.Once the ban hit United became a more attractive propostion and Liverpool FC lost their hold on getting the best players around.

Liverpool supporters not only killed Italians that day, they killed off the Liverpool FC dominance of the English league.

That is the legacy of Heysel

Oh I've read it TB. I just don't agree.

For example if winning the EC, or being denied, is the precursor for success how come Arsenal have managed to win thing in the past two decades when they have never won it themselves?

I do like the fact that it is now a "chain of events" rather than just Heysel as you previously wrote.

It's almost as though you're making things up as you go along to reinforce an already weak argument.

There you go.
All better now.
This comment sums up fans like yourself perfectly.
You had a competitive team up to around 1990, then fell away.
These things happen, everton had a golden period, which came to an end.
Deal with it.

That would make sense but Man Utd were also banned.

Perhaps both clubs were simply poorly managed in comparison to Man Utd.

You think of that? You think that maybe Everton have just been mismanaged for years to the point that you just make up the numbers?

Care to point out exactly where I said that is was ever "just Heysel"?

Or are you just "making things up" to back up your poorly researched & ill informed argument ????

Read again numpty, players had the choice of playing for Liverpool in europe or playing for united for more money.Liverpool got banned from europe as with all the other English clubs,so it was now united for more money or Liverpool with noe europe for less money.
Obviously the money talked

As I said earlier, everton were relatively competitive up to 1990, and then a certain Peter Johnson turns up as chairman, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Semantics TB. The act of a maggot. You have clearly intimated that heysel was the key factor and yet other teams managed okay since.

Bitters.

posted on 27/4/12

jloo - you sum exactly why Blues of a certain age are still 'bitter' about Heysel. As your desire to attribute our demise to anything other that the actual catalyst that set the ball rolling i.e. Liverpool FC's fans being directly responsible for English clubs being banned from European competition, due to the part they played in the deaths of 39 Italians at a football match - is more than a tad irritating.

--------------------------------------------

It's far from semantics.

You made a comment that was factually incorrect, putting words in my mouth, as you pea brain had not taken in the actual words written & instead you chose to come to your own, totally incorrect conclusion & then when this FACT was pointed out, you've decided to label it semantics & call me a 'maggot'

LOL, you've not got the mental capacity to take me on son, so my advice would be - crawl back under your rock. Ta ta.

I've a measured IQ of 147 so I doubt that.

Okay - you did not say that you said it was only Heysel but it is semantics. You clearly feel it was the key factor and as such intimated it. Maybe you should be more carefuil in the way you phrase things.

Fact is Everton are rammel and it's their own doing.

posted on 27/4/12

A measured IQ if 147you but still unable to read what someone has typed instead choosing to read what you want to believe.
At Liverpool's last European champions league final, they interviewed a LFC fan on the fact that he had got in with a fake ticket (which he knew was fake ) his reply he didn't care that another LFC fan wouldn't be able to get in because he could and its was uefa fault for the way they organised it,, (what so again blaming someone else for there wrong doing)

147 IQ? - lol, what a whopper that is, you should have aimed a tad lower with your lies daft lad, as 147 puts somebody in the highest 0.1% of the population & that most defintiely ain't you

Maybe you should;

a) Learn to spell

&

b) Take heed of your own advice

Thanks anyway genius

The same number as a maximum break in snooker and the World Championships are on telly.

Meethinks this is more than a coincidence and you are in fact nothing more than a sad little insecure internet warrior who has nothing else to do in life than type dross on these forums
