Why did Beckford go off ?

I've heard it's because he was more interested in enjoying his homecoming party than in playing the game. Spent a lot of time soaking up the welcome he was getting from our fans.

He's supposedly said at some point recently that "only way I'll score a goal at Elland Road is in a white shirt" as well. He didn't come out of the tunnel after half time so presumably he's been told to get an early bath.

He didn't get on the team coach home, instead staying in Leeds to go out with the Leeds lads.

Or because it was an end of season game with nothing riding on it? Just saying...

Purely to give vassell a run out! Wouldn't read much into it, bit like nugent on the bench to give waggy a run out!

He was blowing kisses to the Leeds fans and doing the Leeds salute on the sly.
And I aint wumming either As I was typing that I thought to myself, "I sound like a WUM don't I".

Promise, it's the truth. Was having banter with Alex Bruce and he offered to give Beckford his shirt and he jokingly went to swap.

I noticed he didn't even celebrate when Waghorn scored. There's no doubting his ability to score goals but do we really want someone at the club that doesn't want to be here?!

Sorry to be the voice of reason here but:

Beckford didn't arrive on the team coach, which is why he didn't leave on it - He has a house in Leeds which is where he both started and ended his day

He didn't celebrate Waghorn's goal because it's bad form to celebrate against an old team - We don't like it when it happens to us, so why would the Leeds fans and Beckford knows it

He was substituted, pure and simple, I wouldn't read anything into that.

Do you really think a player will go on record as saying he wouldn't score against a former team His position would be untenable with every team in the land

Beckford has an affinity with Leeds, that's a fact which I don't have an issue with

Beckford has too much of an attitude problem for me to worry one iota if we sell him to anyone close season

...and at half time, Beckford came out dressed as a stunning courtesan and did a Moulin-Rouge style 'Your Song' skit with Ken Bates.

Although I much prefer stories of sly kisses and salutes, Danger does have a point.

For weekend away games up north players like Gallagher, Wellens, St Ledger, etc don't travel by coach because of the locale of their family home.

Although the lack of celebrating certainly would have been affected by the fact it's Leeds, many Leicester/Leeds and Everton fans will have noticed he rarely celebrates emphatically when someone else scores.

How bad is journalism in this country if someone missed the quote mentioned above by Marko!?!?

Pearson made it clear he was going to mix it around up front and I guess that was made easier by the fact Beckford didn't have a great first half. In fact, you could argue that Beckford coming off with a substantial amount of the game to play is something Pearson should have been doing many games ago.

I also wouldn't be too bothered if Beckford left, but also wouldn't be frustrated if he stayed. At least a couple of high earners have to be chopped so guess it could be Jermaine. And suppose if he does wuv Leeds he may consider a wage drop, but Bates has already said he turned down the opportunity to re-sign him a couple of times.

Im bored with all the beckford dscusson, there' s obviously a problem wth him or why would there be all this hand ringing and talk? all the issues out weigh the benefits.. get shot..

No problem just people wanting one. looking at the bench with 3 strikers and last game of the season make some changes at half time.
If NP wants rid then it was a nice gesture for him to play him against his old club

What shirt was he wearing bruv
(Before anyone notices I nicked that off Not 606)

I think if he was an emphatic finisher (i.e. Yakubu debate), it would be a more convoluted discussion about Beckford.

But I have to agree with John - although he certainly may have it in his bag to be a superb 20+ goal-a-season, Championship striker, he has been very ordinary most of the time.

So if we had the opportunity to reduce the wage bill by around £1m a year or gamble on his potential at this level coming to fruition, I'd be tempted to go with the former because I'm not sure he offers much more than Vassell, Waghorn or Schlupp.

He was right in front of me when he was doing it, I'll swear on the year left on Snoddy's contract he was blowing kisses and doing the Leeds salute at us

Perhaps he's missed his calling as a covert kissogram, in countries where affection is frowned upon..

One thing springs to mind when reading that is, if you are lying nothing will happen to Snoddy, Leeds, or you - But IF it did happen it could well be that he knows we don't like him and he needs a friend - Will you be his friend?

We're really not bothered in the slightest - Have him, go on, he's yours - Uncle Ken will have to pay his worth though

I'll find you a video, it was in the first few minutes.

Quick google search brought this up.

So elsewhere are discussing it. LUTV will release their full 90 minutes video of the match soon so I'll nab it from there.

OK despite some disgusting racism, there is still no evidence of this fast growing popular folk story - Assuming it is true, why is it so important to you? Are you that desperate to be loved?

I thought you lot were proud to be disliked

posted on 29/4/12

It doesn't bother me I was just trying to bring you the facts.

The only parts I know are 100% true is that in order of events.

1. At the kick off he gave a thumbs up to all the Leeds fans.

2. At his first attack when Lonergan slid out and claimed it he gave a really sly Leeds salute.

3. Think it was a corner where Beckford blew kisses with both hands towards the Leeds fans.

posted on 29/4/12

Are you suggesting that he is so unprofessional he would deliberately not do his best and would deliberately not score for us when he could have done so because he was playing against Leeds - Pure folly

posted on 29/4/12

Am I missing something here - what the hell is a Leeds salute?

posted on 29/4/12

three pumps of the arm, we are leeds we are leeds we are leeds. A Leeds fan to me to home game against Forest. did not quite go to plan leeds lost 0 v 4

posted on 29/4/12

Cheers Nev.

I assume if it was a Leeds salute it might be an overly confident fist pump before lowering itlimply as you realise you're nowhere near as good a you think you are.

posted on 29/4/12

It's actually clenching your fist and banging it against the right side of your chest 3 times wit your elbow at shoulder height. Bangs your chest on the thumb side, not like tarzan

-----------------------------------

I never noticed it, used to go absolutely mental at Leeds when anyone scored.

What I don't get is why does it matter? Who cares if he gave a Leeds salute? I have no problem at all with it. Imagine if Heskey was playing for Leeds against us, do you not think he would blow kisses and clap the Leicester fans? Of course he would!!

Most importanly here though it was the last game of the season when the game meant nothing, has anybody considered whether he would have done the same had the game meant something to both teams in terms of promotion? I very much doubt it!

Are we really to believe that if he had the chance of a last minute winner that would seal our promotion that he would have missed it on purpose because he wouldn't want to score against Leeds? That's just laughable

At the end of the day he wears a blue shirt and the only time he'll wear white is when we're playing away ha ha
