Agree mate, think his volley against Newcastle was much better technique and much harder to pull off

posted on 4/5/12

Yeah the volley was better because he didn't shin it

what gets me is the bbc always show lord bekhams goal v wimbledon but yet never alonso's goal v newcastle where he was further out, had to beat the ref and he won the tackle

bitter bitter bitter! 'Lord' Beckham's was better.

He shinned it.

Ha it makes me laugh when people bring up the "shin argument" = lame

A overhead kick is much harder than hitting a volley when the ball is dropping to you.

Stop speaking logic

The fact that he shinned it means his technique wasn't perfect. Unlike Le Tissier's, Suarez's, Beckham's etc

Volleying a ball into the back of the net is much harder than an overhead kick. Overhead kicks are just pure luck considering most of the time you're not even looking at the goal and in Rooney's case he didn't even connect with it properly, who knows where it would have gone if he did, whereas volleying the ball takes more technique as it is usually from further out and the player is usually at least trying to direct the ball.

As I said in the OP, I'm not saying it isn't a very good goal, I just think goals such as Rooney's volley Vs Newcastle or Bales volley last season are much better and then there's goals that are even better than them such as Bergkamp's goal or DI Canio's volley and so on.

Having practised the overhead kick in training for the whole of my playing life and only having seen it hit the back of the net once, I can tell you that is not the case at all.

I used to score ones like the Newcastle one at least once a season. There isn't anywhere near the same amount of technique involved.

Ridicule away.
Alternatively, explain how a goal that came off a player's shin can be voted best goal of the past 20 years.
See if you can use some big words.

Big words not necessary.

Not in the slightest, but you seem to be.

It is understandable though, as your tiny brain can't seem to figure out what team you want to support.

It must be an eternal struggle for your two active brain cell to keep your eyes open each day.

The Rooney goal and RvPs v Charleton are the same.

If they meant to shin it in, then I the brilliance.

If they were trying to connect with their boot, well then they missed the ball by a pretty wide margin and still connected by a slice of fortune.

Those are the options like it or lump it. Pick one.

Did they mean to shin it or not?
