That's one transfer we definitely have the money for. Unfortunately. But it's not the signing we need. It would just take funds away from the areas that need investment.
Nah give up on this one, never happen
No chance
Man Utd don't need a striker. They need a midfield and a defence. Having said that, with this present team possessing the quality they do, they should easily get into the quarter finals of the Europa cup next year.
We had this debate last week and the don't buy big brigade were out in force opposing it as they said it will slow down Danny Welbeck's progress.
But my argument is that for Welbeck to actually be considered a good enough striker for us, he should be able to force his way past RvP. As that will be the true test.
And as we know SAF isn't afraid of dropping £30m strikers for younger players.
I agree, there's no way it will happen. We do need to strengthen other areas of the team first but I also feel another striker would be good and there aren't many better! Imagine Rooney and van Persie playing together, what a strike force with Welbeck coming through too.
We can all dream eh? Just thought it was interesting that it's actually been reported (not suggesting there's an ounce of truth in it).
Another transfer mentioned again today is Baines to United for £10m
If berbatov leaves, we'll be left with berba Rooney and Hernandez. RVP would be an excellent signing
I meant to say we DON'T have the money for this transfer!
I really think Baines could happen. Would love it 😁
But SAF has said the money is there if a special player becomes available.
RvP is a special player.
Needs to be a special midfielder!
I don't think it's even worth talking about its never gonna happen
And by August he'll be 29. Doesn't matter if he's a special player or not. Fergie won't be paying big money for an injury prone 29 year old.
If as expected Berbatov and Owen leave, and unless we're sure that Macheda or another youth player is ready to step up (something I doubt), I'd say we could do with another striker, and RVP would be a high quality addition. Whether Arsenal would sell / whether he'd choose us over the wages other clubs could offer is another matter (I personally have my doubts). But now is a better chance to get him than any other time, unless he sees out his contract and leaves on a free next summer.
SLM - the 'the don't buy big brigade' is an unfair caricature of the variety of posters who have objected to your relentlessly negative stance. I don't know of anyone who believes we should never buy players, or who would prefer we bought bad players. However, I do know there are a number of posters who believe the task of squad building is about more than simply buying the best players available, that sometimes on paper less talented players who are temperamentally and tactically suited to the job you want to fulfil, who fit in to a collective that is more than the sum of its parts, can be a better bet than someone who looks amazing at a different club. And among these posters are people who also cling to the old-fashioned belief that part of being a supporter involves developing a deep attachment to the club and its existing players, rather than spending most of one's energy dreaming about replacing actual Manchester United players with other teams' players. E.g. Like you, I've considered Modric a great potential fit for the United midfield for the last couple of years. But I don't see the point in obsessing about Modric to the extent that we lose sight of the pleasures of supporting our existing players.
I would not be in the least bit surprised given Arsenal's love of money...& it will take a fair bit to get him
Must have been a very slow day down at Talk<rubbish> Sport! Slim to none that deal going through!
RvP is a special player.

RVP is an old player. It might not be an issue for you but it will be for fergie. He likes his players being able to bend to his will

I fear that will be totally wasted on SLM but well said anyway RR
Never again should a talksport article be posted here after this bs.
Of course this is nonsense, but even if it wasn't I'd be totally against this purchase.
In my view it would waste a large part of our budget on a playing position that isn't vitally in need of strengthening to the detriment of others that absolutely are such as CM and full back.
Worse still the guy is 29 and has a terrible injury record outside this season.
No doubt he'd strengthen us up front if fit but the negatives far outweigh the positives.
