Thought Gudjohnson would get a game..deadly in his prime.
I'd have Frandsen over Nolan every time.
i would bring in bruce rioch and colin todd for owen coyle and sandy stewart.
my keeper would be branagan.
back 4 bergsson,laville,cahill,phillips.
midfield david lee,frandsen,alan thompson,sellars.
up front mcginlay,nathan blake.
As I go back a bit further, here's my X1.
Jussi
Ritson
Jones( Paul)
Allardyce
Sam can be player=manager.
Campo
Dunne
Reid
Thompson(Alan)
Anelka
Worthington
Diouf.
Jussi
Ngotty
Cahill
Laville
Candela
Campo
Okocha
Wilshere
Djorkaeff
Anelka
Diouf
I would have Holden instead of Wilshere if we are using current players too (I know I picked Jussi but how can you pick anyone else in goal?).
how you can put NRC in the subs over Holden I'll never know!
Agree with the rest of it, except replace Anelka with Ngog and Campo with Pratley
Holden the Fort, showing your age mate I think we must be contemporaries ... First name on the team sheet would be Frank Worthington and definitely Paul Jones in central defence, probably with Cahill Think I might go for Barry Siddall in goal, just for nostalgia's sake.
Full backs: they say that Tommy Banks was a monster, before even my time, but on reputation alone he gets left back. I am going to put Bergsson at RB because he was always adaptable.
I am going 4-3-3, so the wingers will be out-and-out attackers: WillyWillyWillyWillyMorgan on one wing, on one wing; Sturridge on the other, he can like it or lump it. The rest of them are Okocha natch, Frandsen and Gudjohnsen.
Bench: Peter Reid, Claus Jensen, Colin Hendry (oh yes he did - once I think), Jussi and Fredi Bobic
Just like to add - it's not easy is it? No wonder football managers age five years to everybody else's one
Do to my age im not going to bother writing out a team...
I thought about it, then read the op...its the same as his. Id play in a 4-1-4-1 formation with anelka up front and campo the other '1' ...obviously.
Id double the price of my season ticket to see those players in a bwfc shirt again...especialy jay jay...that lad was football pronography!
ExiledinEssex - You're right, I first went to Burnden in 1967, the more you think about it, you have to leave out so many greats.
my keeper would be branagan.
back 4 bergsson,laville,cahill,phillips.
midfield david lee,frandsen,alan thompson,sellars.
up front mcginlay,nathan blake.
-----------------
You've got to be having a laugh with this team, Benny.
Phillips and Nathan Blake?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
how about
Jussi
Sunbed Bergsson N'Gotty Ricardo
Campo
Frandsen Jay Jay
Stelios Youri D
Supa John
Jussi
Bergsson N'Gotty Cahill Candela
Campo Hierro
Sturridge Okocha Djorkaeff
Anelka
Subs:
Branagan
Laville
Faye
Diouf
Wilshere
Gudjohnsen
SKD
I know Sturridge prefers to be played in the centre but his pace needs to be utilised and the formation could allow for him shifting into the middle if required. I also think, despite his short time with us, Candela is one of the best defenders we've had and was a big part of our survival that season
Good article.
Right, here we go.......
Seamus "Don't call me Jim" McDonagh
Barry "Crazy legs" Cowdrill
Mark "Winni, winnie, winnie. What a hero, what a man" Winstanley.
Dave "Don't panic!" Sutton.
Phil "I only know one pass and it's down the line" Brown
Stuart "Stupid but quick" Storer
Steve "Treadmill" Thompson
Graham "Zico" Bell
Jeff "Look at my lovely hair" Chandler
Tony "Zapata 'tache" Caldwell
Trevor "Ten bellies" Morgan
That lot would beat anybody....
Pass
Just reading this far brought a tear to the eyes. I will be up early tomorrow waiting for the churches to open. then popping over to the mosques and synagogs.
Whoever is up there looking down, I'm with them.
Jussi
N'Gotty Bergsson Cahill Candela
Hierro Campo Okocha
Sturridge Anelka Djorkaeff
Subs
Branagan
Faye
Speed
Holden
Petrov
Davies
M Ricketts
I think most of us remember just HOW good Ricketts was in that 20 months spell before his attitude problem developed beyond thought and then he was rubbish for 9 months...but then scored 6 in 7, and 'Boro gave us £3.5m, nice one!
This was really difficult though, really difficult.
Id be interested to see a worst team..mine would be:
Tommy Wright
Hunt Knight Michalik Ben-Haim
Wilhelmsson McCann Passi Riga
Makakula Jardel
Subs
Sommer
Steinsson
Shittu
Cid
Thompson
Braaten
Blake
HH how does Cid not make it into the all time worst starting XI, he should be captain! At least Michalik scored against Chelsea! And no Ibrahim Ba? McCann will always be forgiven just for his goal against Boro to keep us up
All those players are on a level playing field.. Squad rotation...all as bad as eachother haha. CID will be in next game haha
No one fancied Franny Lee?
Not even Mrs Lee apparently!
And PFA Chairman Graham Taylor (when he was 18 stone thinner) was lightning down the right wing. Unfortunately he couldn't do much with the ball once he reached the touchline and had to stand and wait for help
Gawd struth, HH.
I know he wasn't great for us, but Jardel has/had the best goalscoring record for any player...EVER!
I know he did, and jardel was fantastic, up until the day he joined us.
I cannot tell you my excitement when we signed him.
But he was awful, and I've never known a players expectation and real ability to be so far apart.
He has to be in that team...I was expecting more than a header against Liverpool and a brace against Walsall, both in the league cup! Haha
Best team
Jussi,Bruno,Laville,Cahill,Gudni,Campo,Hierro,JJ,Ried (sorry my fave player),Anelka,Eidur!
COYLES TEAM
Farnworth,Scott,Deakin,Sutton,Cid.Bell,Allatt,Saunders,Comstive,Roger Walker,Entwistle
nuns, couldn't you have found a spot for Robbie Blake in Coyle's team? He is versatile, and can play anywhere in midfield or up front. It's what Owen would do.
Large Hat
Blake stealing a living pal!.
I'm just upset you picked Sutton, he was captain when I was mascot
