I would go with Lescott also. Terry partnering Lescott. It's a good balance and a good partnership.

I wonder if this is how the FA pick the squad?

Nah. They just write down Terry and Lampard, and then phone them to get them to pick the rest.

He tried his very best to alter that fact yesterday!

Votes for Lescott took place yesterday before the match and he was the runaway leader. I know not everyone had the chance to vote, but he and Cahill were that strong leaders it seemed inevitable they'd win their respective polls.

True but he has had an outstanding season for us and luckily he wont be remembered for that horrendous error.

One mistake doesn't change that he has had a good season. From a Man Utd fan.

Young fans nowadays tend to base their opinions of footballers on how they look, or how funny they think they are. Feck that age-old way of actually watching how they play.

Tsk, yeah, 'young fans', eh...

I think 4 centre backs must be a must surely? Based on that I voted for Rio as I knew Jagielka would get enough votes.

This is depressing the hell out of me.

How is Terry still getting votes?

He'll really boost the team spirit wont he, or perhaps his legs will have suddenly got quicker since he was last woefully exposed in international tournament football, his brain certainly wont have, or perhaps he'll needlessly knee someone in the back during a big game, or try and be the captain around the camp and in press conferences when he isnt the captain.

It's not as if he's in the form of his life, quite the opposite, he's playing worse now than he ever has at any time in his career.

I voted for Jagielka but Terry has been one our most consistent players this season. Just because he had a bad game against Liverpool doesn't mean his seasons been bad.

________

I think there are a lot of reasons why Terry shouldnt go, aside from his short comings at recent tournaments, not least because it would really damage team spirit significantly (on top of the depressing Roy news ).

It's not just that he's disliked by many players, that can be overcome, it's that on top he's currently accused of racism, and on top again it's against another footballer and brother of a guy that could easily be there as well and is very popular in the squad.

I also would say that I dont think anyone should not go just because of one game, but I cant for the life of me see how anyone would suggest Terry is even close to in good form currently, and if he wasn't called John Terry and played for Sunderland, on form he simply wouldnt be picked.
