Kagawa is hardly a marquee signing. And Hazard has massive potential, but he's not exactly an established star yet.
kagawa would be marquee imo. one of the best players in his position in the world
I'd accept your idea if it weren't for the success of the players you cited...
How is Kagawa not a marquee signing? And we don't "need" a marquee signing. We are not like Madrid or City. We buy young players who have potential. Would you rather we have signed Ronaldinho or Ronaldo when Beckham left?

A bit premature is it not? He's had a fantastic 2 seasons in Germany but I wouldn't put him up there with the best, yet. From what I've seen of him, his passing isn't his that great, but he does break into the box a lot ala old-school Scholes. Would be a good addition no doubt though.
As for Hazard, I'd love to see him here. 17 goals and 15 assists are great numbers in whatever league you're at..but can't help but think he'll see the ££ of City and go to them. Also, I wonder if Kompany will have some influence over him?
A marquee signing for me is an established big name in world football who has shown he is a world class player in his position. That is a marquee signing.
All the names we are linked with so far aren't in that category, that's not to say they one day will be though
Tbf, although not marquee signings, Jones and De Gea were pretty big sgninging.
Beating City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea to the signature of Jones was nice
Also De Gea is extremely highly rated in Spain and so he was a 'big' signing too imo.
We don't have to sign a Kaka, a Sneijder, a Modric to show we still have abition in the market, we just have to sign more players who can improve our first XI, rather than just squad.
Kagawa would be a good start but a couple of others will be needed if we are to keep up with City next season. For me, Kagawa, Martiniez would be an extremely good summer. Any others would be a bonus
We need a striker! if Owen stays another season I will be angry
What the chuffin hell does marquee even mean anyway?
Does it guarantee success? Not at all.
All the money City have wasted on players they no longer even want. They best money they spent was 200k on Joe Hart and about 10m on Kompany.
We spent 30m on berbs and 7m on Vidic. Which was the best transfer and which one was the marquee one?
What we need is young hungry players that have potential to grow and excel at United. When we have gone for established players in the past, it hasn't quite worked out for us.
And Kagawa wouldn't be marquee. Your everyday casual fan in the street wouldn't know him if he walked past them.
we need a good signing not necessarily a marquee one.
its not a 'show of force' we need. its the right player in the right position.
Beating City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea to the signature of Jones was nice
City were never in for jones
I think this summer, Fergie needs to decide who we should keep before he decides who to bring in. So many question marks over so many players
Kusczak
Fabio
Park
Fletcher
Anderson
Pogba
Berbatov
Macheda
Owen
No exaggeration here but all those guys need their future sorted out. Either keep them and have faith in them or time to get rid and replace.
From that list, Id loan out Fabio, give Anderson one last chance, give Fletcher every chance to return (not getting hopes up though) and then get rid of the rest.
Another stupid post by Stu, when has it been United's philosophy to sign big name superstars? Veron and Berba are the only one that I recall, and it's them two that most likely put Fergie off buying an established player as well.

Ronaldo wasn't a marquee signing. And for the first couple of years all we heard was about him not being "the real Ronaldo" what jokers!
I am slightly concerned about both Scholes AND Giggs still being around. Scholes has shown he can still do it, Giggs for me should retire. Obviously won't happen because he's got another year on his contract to run. Just hope we don't put off bringing in some much needed blood in midfield because they're still around.
Baines and Felllaini would be a good fit
Stretford_Ender is spot on.
We don't need a marquee signing, we just need the correct one. History has shown - Ibra, Veron, Berba, Shevchenko, Kaka - that big name signings aren't always the best signings.
Baines yes. We definitely need another LB. Evra is as guilty as ball watching as Rafael, yet doesn't get as much criticism despite all the experience on his side. He's not fit to be captain in Vida's absence IMO.
Scholes and Giggs will retire next season, SAF said so yesterday that it will be their last year at the club. About time for Giggsy, isn't he 40 this year?
Kagawa is on par with Gotze, he is a 'big player' IMO.
I'd love it if United signed nobody, just got everybody fit & then still give city a run for there ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££
No we don't want to just give them a run for their money! We want to beat them in as many competitions as possible. A midfield trio of Carrick, Scholes and Park is not going to help us do that!
I keep saying this, but I'll be very suprised if we buy another left back. The midfield situation has shown that Fergie is reluctant to change it when there are players there he trusts. And there aren't many players in the squad that Fergie trusts more than Evra.
I think we need some competition for Evra, but when you consider that he has missed 4 league games the last two seasons, we have Rafael, Evans, and even Giggs, who have played at left back, and Jones and Smalling could cover if really needed, it seems unlikely we'll buy one.

Will be 39 in November. There's no way we should still be relying on a player who spent the first 15 years of his career out on the wing to be our creative spark in the middle of the park. About time he went.
