He might not get any direct assists but his creative play is absolutely top notch. Some of the passes he makes to cut open defences are sublime.

But why have a world class player in the squad when we could have a player who passes side--to-side & gets us nowhere.

Whilst i appreciate we all have different views on things, I really dont understand the opinions of some fans.

I dont know fans of any other club who would want to sell one of their top players.

Crazy.

number eight I do see your point but doesn't Silva play off the striker or upfront as part of 3 strikers?

Modric is in the middle and still has defensive duties. Maybe management should have experimented with him off the striker?

for me there are not that many people who are a similar modric player in style...

i cant think of any in england.. possible joe allen, and on the continent you have xavi.....

a modric style of midfielder is very rare these days i find.

Bubbles,

In that set up who would be your defensive midfielder to break up play as both Modric and Lampard are attacking based?

I wrote a couple of articles on Modric over the past few days, here are the stats from them (the spam filter won't allow me to post a link on here for them, but click on my username and they should be there) :

I would love it if Modric stayed- he has been fantastic for us at times and I've just seen on twitter (via @spursstatman) that Modric has created the most chances for Spurs this season with 96 chances- more than Iniesta (33), Ronaldo (58) and Xavi (63) have for their clubs.

*************************************************************

'Our central midfield pairing is made up of a North London based duo whose creativity has gone somewhat unrewarded this season. Tottenham's Luka Modric made the second most key passes from open play with 65, but only picked up 4 assists, while Mikel Arteta laid on 60 chances in total and only managed 2. The Croat made the most accurate passes in the entire division (2215) as well as the most in the opposition half (1756).

Arteta ranked third for the latter statistic (1651), though his 76.9 passes per game during his time at Arsenal was a league high. With the Spaniard's accuracy at 90.8% and Modric's just behind at 87.4%, it is clear that this midfield partnership would dictate the play of any Premier League encounter.'

Rob maybe not so much defensive duties however he is still always back helping out and quite alot of the time sitting in front of the back four trying to get moves started, bit like scholes

I just can't see Modric fitting in at Chelsea, just as I can't really see Marin fitting in either.
Chelsea in recent years have always been about strength and pace, really can't see Modric having the same impact there as he has had here.

Modric doesn't need to be a goal scorer or an assist master for how he plays in our formation.

Gazman

Modric would be interchangeable with the others, I genuinely don't think Chelsea were trying to buy him primarily for his attacking ability, the guy never loses the ball, we don't have a midfielder like that. United do with Scholes, City do with Silva, Arsenal do with Arteta and Newcastle do with Tiote.

I seem to remember last season at Stamford Bridge (the day of Lampards 'goal' that Modric was playing just off the striker and it was VDV who was playing the deeper role. Can anyone remember this? They both played pretty well, VDV plays there for the national team because of Sneijder playing in the hole.

Modric to Chelsea was because of AVB, the next manager might not want him.

weare

Or he may have won a trophy and been playing in a Champions League Final

Chicken, if we wants out, then he wants out. Yes, he is quality, but I don't think he's ghe be all and end all. All I'm saying is if we're going to sell him, let's just get it done. We always drag our heels and it very rarely works out.

I didn't mean that in my above comment

Bubbles,

I see your point with wanting a guy who keeps hold of the ball but playing next to Frank would leave your midfield suspect to the counter. If both moved forward which they will as neither are really disciplined in staying back, a quick team could really hurt you as neither are particularly quick themselves to help get back.

Be careful what you wish for. Without him we would be nowhere near fourth. Ok yes he needs to work on his shooting and he needs to score more and sulk less. Unless we can improve on him which I'm sure we can't then no not for me.

Since when did the Chelsea manager have any say in what players come in?

big_floppy,

If we made it easy for our players to leave, we might just find ourselves with no star players left at all.

I dont think we should ever consider letting players like Modric go, as a good plan of action, regardless of how much speculation there might be.

He can sulk as much as he wants this summer!!!
Boys..hello..you dont play any games this summer. CL doesnt start till Semptembar, let him sulk so what. Same goes for Bale.

Look only at assists and goals when it come to Modric game is simply said PATHETIC!!
No offence to nobody i respect different ppl have different opinions and all that but you got to see Modric for what he really is. Luka Modric is Heart and Soul of Tottenham Hotspur FC...nuff said

Cant sell Modric , Bale and BEA. Simply just cant!! No Way!

One more think, if it was for papers and forum talk Luka Modric would have played 40 games for Chealse already but instead he played around 40 for Tottenham this season and was a part of a team that
finish top 4.

cheer up fellas you havent got relegated!
