It makes me laugh carrick has been a big part of man utd doing well for a long time and should be playing in the starting 11 of the squad. I am shocked wellbeck is in the squad though and caroll how did he get in.
Crouch and holt should have been in it and why do we have 3 gk
Carrick Parker
Ox Young Welbeck
Rooney
I know I'm a United fan so I'm gonna be slightly biased but that is the midfield/attack I would have gone for. The Ox is a big risk but I really rate the lad, has great technique unlike Walcott and his performance against Milan shows he can handle the pressure.
Spot on Blue Kenyan. I think Jones will be a good player - not sure what position. But for him to be anywhere the starting 11 for England is wrong. Richards should have gone.
The thing about todays squad is there are so many errors you lose track. Roy out, he's a disaster after what he's done today.
Another one I haven't even thought of really. Defoe going ahead of Sturridge. A young striker who is our future and a clear talent or a striker who can't get in his club team, in the past wasn't deemed good enough to go the other tournaments and is coming towards the end of his career. Ridiculous isn't it. Another prime example where a talent could have gone and experienced tournament football.
Carrick Parker
Ox Young Welbeck
Rooney

considering these are the positinos they have been playing all season
Either way, it's pointless as we all know Hodgson wont have the balls to drop Gerrard or Lampard.
Ruddy over Carson

Don't you mean foster.
You do know Roy was quoted as saying he saw the ox play against Pirlo and Ambrossini against Milan and knew he was ready for England.
I agree the Ox should come along for the ride but Pirlo doesn't play for Milan and Ambrossini didn't play.
Who else should we have taken then? I don't see that many names left out who are actually decent. A lot of the promising players who could have been in the squad are injured... Wilshere, Walker, Rodwell, Smalling. The only reason people think the golden generation failed so badly is because they were hyped up beyond their actual ability. It doesn't matter who we pick, nothing will change until we have a clear way to coach young players and focus on technique.

I prefer Welbeck as a wide forward as he was at Sunderland, I feel he needs to improve his finishing to lead the line and would like to see Rooney as a false no 9 not dropping deep too much, anyway it would be a very flexible formation and very interchangeable.
All 4 could switch position very easily, anyway it ain't gonna happen.
Also I think Young has played really well through the middle for England over the past year or so.
Carrick, Sturridge, Lennon, A Johnson, Crouch, Rio, Richards, Jagielka, Shawcross, Scholes all should have gone without a doubt.
Downing, Henderson, Milner, Defoe, Carroll, Lampard or Gerard, Johnson, Terry shouldn't have gone.
Quite a big swing and quite a big difference to the squad.
I remember middle of the season thinking wilshere cleverley carrick with young rooney lennon etc but there is none of these which is crazy except rooney and young and rooney will miss first 2 games. I personally think england have the worst midfield and attack of the big nations in the euro's.
On a side note, I can't believe people have one starred the article. Surely there aren't people out there who think the team of 2010 deserves another go?
Carrick, Sturridge, Lennon, A Johnson, Crouch, Rio, Richards, Jagielka, Shawcross, Scholes all should have gone without a doubt.
=============================
Without a doubt? Are you insane?
I like Ruddy, Foster made himself unavailable for international duty so he wasn't an option and personally I'd rather Ruddy than Carson.
Jones is a good bet because he covers a lot of positions across the back, in the event of injuries that's obviously important.
Lampard has been superb in a deeper role for Chelsea in the last few weeks, could finally be a way of squeezing Gerrard and Lampard in the same team. Which it seems every England manager is desperate to do.
Did people not watch Lampard vs Barca? He was outstanding, especially in the Nou Camp (as captain). He's been far superior to Stevie Me this season as well.
Yet Stevie Me is a certainty for the first 11 and Lampard shouldn't be in the squad according to some.
I think you can cross off Scholes, Shawcross, Crouch and Ferdinand.
What TBK said (Apart from Sturridge)
Hajifur I think england have the worst attack, midfield AND.defence of the big nations

most worrying thing was how barca played against chelsea and spain played against england despite losing out to english side.
However teams with a similar system like germany will rip us apart. maybe hodgson will play park the bus tactics and counter attack.
Andre. Honestly, I've always thought that Gerrard has been the better player than Lampard but I would have Lampard in this England squad and Gerrard nowhere near it. They both play the same role, Lampard has been better this year, Gerrard has been injured alot. Lampard should go and Gerrard shouldn't. Let alone be captain.
Why should Scholes and Rio be crossed off when both were open to playing for England this summer? Terry and a midfielder could have been omitted for them two. It's not like Terry will be around for the next World cup or Lampard or Gerard.
Actually, scrub that. I bet they will.
I think Cahill has got in over Jagielka purely because he plays for one of the big clubs.
Sturridge still has a lot to learn but I feel deserves a place over Defoe.
Lennon and A Johnson both deserve to be ahead of Downing, although maybe not both.
Carrick is a no brainer.
Crouch has had a better season and has far more experience than Carroll who has been good for about 1 month.
Richards is a better RB than Johnson, that's my opinion, I've never rated Johnson defensively.
I don't think Rio or Scholes could handle having to play so often and so understand their omission.
Sorry Defoe over Sturridge any day.
I personally would have dropped Gerard altogether. Lampard has been good the last few weeks where as Gerard has been off form all season.
