Even if Podolski is our only signing this season and RVP does sign a new contract we need to demand the team win something. Without our bad start i believe we would be around 7 -10 points off the lead by the end of the season. We have made excuses for certain players like Gervinho, Mertesacker, Santos and Ramsey (first season & injury), these players now have no excuse and with the inclusion of Wilshere and Podolski we must be aiming for the title.

It may sound obscene but if we are to challenge our players need to know what we expect for them to up their game. If they know we only target top 4 then they are relatively comfortable every season. To get the best out of them the bar needs to be set high.

We need much more than just Podolski and Wilshere to challenge for the title, I fear some of our fans are massively overrating the impact Podolski's going to have next season.

Podolski will definitely improve our scoring record if RVP stays as well. We've desperately needed more goal scorers in and around the team to take the pressure off RVP.

If we had an extra player to score more it would take the pressure off players like Song and Vermaelen, whose primary role is to defend, to push up and look for a goal when RVP isn't scoring.

I was thinking the exact opposite about Podolski

If Gervinho has managed 34 games - 4 goals and 8 assists, I can't wait to see what Podolski can do. It's his aura and leadership i am most excited about, he is the type of player who won't choke on the big stage if anything he will put on a show.

'he is the type of player who won't choke on the big stage if anything he will put on a show.'

Not too sure about this tbh but let's wait and see what happens.

He'll definitely be a major improvement on Gervinho but there are also some other weaknesses in the squad which need to be sorted out.

The weaknesses i see in the team are:

Jenkinson
Santos
defence as a unit

I'm hoping Wilshere will fit the CAM birth aswell as the Ox occasionally.

Did anybody see the RVP quotes from 08 John posted on twitter? He's gone IMO.

Post them here.

RVP: "If you are 27 or 28 I can understand that you would make the decision to go elsewhere if you can earn three or four times as much"

we need to improve the squad with better players, IMO this is 1 of our major weaknesses.

we have become a team that has had to rely on other teams losing their consistency, i'd rather lead from the front, that means having players we can bring on that can make a difference in a game and also cover very effectively when we pick up injuries, we are way to light in terms of squad quality.

Samir Nasri: "I weighed up the pros and cons, Roberto Mancini was calling me every day and I decided to go there." - Tapped up?

Wouldn't surprise me if RVP was on the phone to Mancini/Vieira right now!

Have you read John Cross' article in the mirror, doesn't look too promising.

Robin van Persie has expressed his frustration to Arsenal and given a clear hint that he is ready to quit.

Van Persie held crunch talks about his future with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis on Wednesday - and made it plain that he is fed-up with not winning trophies.

It comes as Manchester City move into pole position in the battle for his services.

The new Premier League champions are desperate to lure Van Persie north and are ready to put together a £25million deal and £250,000-a-week contract.

Wenger faces the fight of his life to try to convince Van Persie to stay.

The Dutch striker wants assurances on whether Arsenal will be able to compete next season, and has major doubts whether they can.

Italian giants Juventus remain keen and have put together a lucrative package which includes a £25m transfer fee and £180,000-a-week contract.

Manchester United are also keen and willing to match City’s package.

It is believed Juve director Beppe Marotta has met with Van Persie’s representatives, but the Italian champions fear he is keen on joining City.

Van Persie has seen his former Gunners team-mates Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri win the title this season after quitting the Emirates for City last summer.

It would be heartbreaking for Arsenal fans to see him follow suit and the club are determined not to give up.

They have put together a three year deal worth £130,000-a-week, and featuring a big signing-on fee, to try to persuade him to stay.

Wenger has tried to sell the vision of the club challenging for trophies to Van Persie, with him as captain and the main man - and the chance to become a legend.

Arsenal have already signed Lukas Podolski for £9.7m from Cologne and others are likely to follow .

However, Van Persie is desperate for stellar signings to help them win trophies, having voiced similar concerns to Wenger last summer.

Arsenal were staying tight-lipped on Wednesday night but they are prepared to hold the player to the final year of his contract.

It is unlikely anything will now be agreed before the Euros next month, and the stand-off will only give encouragement to City and Juventus.

If the M'Vila, Kagawa and Belhanda rumours are true i think he will stay. Or are the moves funded by him

he's staying.

John Cross is clueless. He doesn't know a thing. But I'm leaning towards accepting that RVP has probably played his last game for us

posted on 17/5/12

Shut up Batmanu.

If he ever wants to win the top 4 trophy again, he'll stay with us.

posted on 17/5/12

If he does leave do people think we will sign another quality striker or do you think Podolski will be it?

posted on 17/5/12

After the Udninese game RVP told the media that we should buy 20m+ players to compete with our rivals. I'm sure he is desperate for us to spend big and if Wenger can't give any guarantees then he will definitely leave.

posted on 17/5/12

We'll sign another striker if he leaves. But that's a big if. He won't leave.
