I have a funny feeling that Chelsea will go for Van Persie. Whether they get him though is another question. I bet they try though.

He is already based in London. PL and CL proven. Relatively cheap due to contract situation. And can be paid whatever he wants by the Russian.

Personally I think Torres timing was poor, why did he not wait until he knows how the Drogba situation pans out. If Drogs DOES leave the club now as a legend then surely that guarantees Torres more opportunities next season.

I´m thinking the same thing.

Based on how Torres has played for most of his time at Chelsea he´s lucky that he´s been given any gametime at all let alone starting a Champions League Final.

Did he honestly expect to start the Final ahead of Drogba ?

I was hoping that we could make Torres our number 1 striker next season if Drogba leaves.

maybe, but he has no guarantee of being our main striker next season, so things may not improve for him at Chelsea, it looks very uncertain for him now,especially as the criticism appears to be aimed at the club itself.

We need a new Striker. With Drogba gone (most likely) we have no one who can lead out attack. Wouldn't be disappointed at all seeing Torres out the door

Gazza Mikel has established himself in the two man midfield and Lampard has been exceptional. Ramires has shown he can play on the right and will only get better if he works on hos techniques and crossing. I would look for a left winger and a striker if Drogba leaves.

I like OP's team As much as I dont want Rami on the wing, we need a defensive CM (Mikel/Romeu) and a creative CM (Lampard/Mceachran?), and he isn't either And if we sign a new winger I couldn't bear seeing Rami on the bench after such an outstanding season

Our sub bench for that team could be:
Turnbull(), Romeu(rotate with Mikel), Mceachran(rotate with Lamps), Marin(Impact sub on left or right), Sturridge(impact sub, and start vs slow back 4), Luiz/Cahill(rotate), Bertrand(starting some games)

Very strong bench and 1st team, and I would use Sturridge as back up striker if Drogba leaves

Is it possible that Torres´s gripe was the fact that Malouda was brought on in the Final before he was ?

That´s the only possible reason I can think as to why he would be annoyed.

Thought he should be trusted with a penalty - well considering he backed down when people told him to take one earlier in the season I'm not bleedin surprised he wasn't considered!

That interview was appallingly timed and very stupid of him. It's taken over headlines and has detracted from the whole thing and it's only going to remind him in the future how peripheral his role was in winning the CL.

If Atletico want him back for Falcao (+ some cash) I'd bite their hand off.

I am sure I read somewhere in a Torres interview that he wanted to take a penalty but was not selected. I can't find the source now

Modric is still a great shout, not sure why but I have always felt he would thrive in our squad. Not only that but he would be worth buying just to rub a little more salt
