World class performances by some of your lads

---------

Don't get carried away now. The whole Chelsea team inc Drogba were poor throught out the 120 mintues of the match and it was only due to bad luck and wasteful finishing by Bayern that the game was not put completely to bed.

One corner resulting in a goal does not equal world class performances

you are right, its better than that... particularly if one is standing in the winning corner.

Cheers Jack Walker nice article.

I think what the players did this season in the Champions League was truly amazing and something out of Roy of the Rovers.

The grit, dogged determination and sheer refusal to be beaten shown by our players is an inspiration that I will never forget.

its just a shame that they didnt have the same professionalism, grit and determination under AVB, that way you may have been challenging for the PL too...just a thought

AVB alienated himself from the players and he made a dog´s dinner of his time at Chelsea. Even Lukaku recently came out saying how much he hated AVB because he was treated like cráp by him.

I think that AVB will successful at another club just like he was at Porto but I hope he has learned from his mistakes at Chelsea.

maybe so guys, but as paying spectators, despite the fact that the players didnt like the mangager, would you not expext 100% commitment from the players, after all, you guys are paying their wages.

Did you not watch Chelsea in the Champions League this season ?

I´d call that 200% commitment from the players.

thats ok then, put 0% effort in for the first half of the season then 200% in one game and its all ok!

When you got a manager who doesn't even tell you what you got to do and treats you like dirt then the players have a right to feel unhappy. He couldn't do the basics at managing and deserved the sack.

im not saying he didnt deserve the sack mate, he did, but if i was paying a fair bit of cash to watch someone and they werent putting the effort in, id be slightly pi553d

For some reason you keep ignoring the simple fact that we were cráp under AVB because of AVB.

To be honest mate you´re just coming across as a bitter Utd fan right now.

____________

why would i be bitter?
unlike some fans ( and i use the term loosely) i dont think its our god given right to win something every season.

The fact is under AVB, regardless of whether the liked him the chelsea players are very well payed people, who supporters pay to watch and should be putting in 100% effort regardless.

I hate my manager at work, but i still graft because thats what im paid to do.

As a season ticket holder ( a paying spectator if you lie) I have never blamed the players. When you work for a bad manager performance suffers, no matter what job you do.

I suspected for some time that AVB was affecting morale in the team and details that are coming to light seem to back that up.

It´s not about whether the players liked AVB. It´s about how AVB performed as Chelsea manager and if you disect his time at Chelsea it´s very clear that he did a fairly poor job.

Maybe his lack of experience counted against him but he simply wasn´t able to get the team winning enough games and we suffered far too many draws and losses under him.

His tactics were poor at times and his constant use of the high line tactic when it was very clear to everyone that it didn´t work for us was a big mistake.

AVB seemed either incapable or unwilling to make changes in tactics and personell when needed.

I don´t want to slate AVB because he did well at Porto and if he learns from his mistakes at Chelsea he may do well in the future at another club.

If you love AVB so much then maybe you can take AVB at Utd when Fergie retires

The whole Chelsea team were not poor Don. Ashley Cole was immense, PC was brilliant, Drogba first class, Ruiz and Cahill rock solid. There is an art in defending mate, it may not always be pretty for the purist, but neverthless is still takes a lot of effort and skill.

I think I read somewhere that Chelsea have been in 6 of the last 9 semi-finals of this competition. Takes some doing whoever you support.

Agreed that Bayern were the better team and on balance should have won. But I am not interested in them and Chelsea had some top, top performers playing last weekend, hence doing enough to win.

Exactly

Barca and Bayern are better than us so there was no point in standing toe to toe with them as we´d have got beat.

Football is all about tactics and finding ways to beat your opposition.

Against Barca and Bayern we used a defensive counter-attcking formation and it worked.

We don´t always plays like that.

We were much more attacking against Napoli when we beat them 4-1 and against Spurs in the FA Cup semifinal when we beat them 5-1.

It´s all about adapting your style of play for the team you play against and we definitely showed that this season.

If people want to keep beating the Chelsea are defensive drum then so be it as they are clearly ignoring the facts.

I´d also like to remind those people that Chelsea scored a record-breaking 103 Premiership goals in the Double winning season of 2010 and defensive teams don´t make those kind of records.

to be fair chelsea were very neagtive and pretty boring to watch, having said that they played to their strengths and won so fair play to them.

as said above if you stand toe to toe with Barce or Bayern then the chances are your gonna get spanked.

If you thought that the Chelsea - Barca game in the Nou Camp or the Final against Bayern were boring then you are in a very small minority.

In fact they were two of the most dramatic games I can remember watching.

Also you must have missed our 3-0 win over Valencia, our 4-1 demolition of Napoli and our 5-1 thrashing of Spurs in the FA Cup semifinal if you think that we only play negative football.

you want me to pass your dummy back mate, you seem to have spat it out.

Right, lets start from the begining,
1) chelseas tactics were very negative and boring, you sat back and defended for the better part of 90 minutes, however i never said the game was boring, beacuse of the fact you sat back it made for an attacking game from Bayern, and you defended well.

2) At what point did i say chelsea only play negative football?? I was talking about the one game, and not the whole season.

Cheers onlyonejackwalker, good of you to say so especially under the circumstances you find your self in.

I won't bother to counter the negative comments on because if you can't see the adversity Chelsea have had to overcome to win this, you know very little of our club!

Hope you can make an early return next season onlyonejackwalker!

So you´re saying that the games against Barca and Bayern were very exciting to watch and that Chelsea are capable of some very attacking and exciting football.

I agree.
